I was inspired by DSCROW's blog today on her run in the rain dilemma. It reminded me of how I loved playing in the rain as a child and changing clothes three times during a golf round in the rain when I was at "maximum density!"
Just those thoughts brought me to who I am today. I was never a fair weather golfer. How could I be a fair weather runner now when it is so much healthier for me? I embrace it!
The first thing that comes to mind is your running clothes and your $170 running shoes! Your run clothes should be performance & wicking fabrics. They can take the water!
Your shoes will dry! I have 2 pairs of Brooks Transcends I wear for short runs with one for exclusive Triathlon Run segments. I also love ASICS Noosas for their amazing drainage. These puppies beg for water!
I always enjoy when I tell the water stop volunteers to "throw the water!" It refreshes me and is fun for them too. The water runs straight down to my shoes where the excellent drainage takes over. They also air dry on the run to a degree. When I get home, I hand wash them and set them out to air dry! They survive, are clean, and ready for the next "splash & dash!"
Running in the rain when there is no lightning is pure exhilaration! The first time I did it, I was running near my house out on the Dunedin Causeway to Honeymoon Island Beach! Yeah, I know I have it rough!
Making it out to my turnaround at the Honeymoon Island entrance, I saw the clouds coming from the Gulf. As I turned my back, I could feel the misting. Within a mile, the rain caught me. It was such a rush! I embraced it and had the biggest smile on my face. I was not alone as others were out there sharing the same feelings! When I came home to my front door, D saw me as a wet pup with a stupid grim on my face! At that moment, I was around 62 years young, feeling 9 years old! Glorious!
So, this is one of the beautiful wonders of life! Running in the Rain! Take it and have fun with it. Embrace it and you will feel the joy!
