Good Day at The Market
Monday, June 11, 2007
Today I went to my local market for fresh produce, I was really in luck. My friends that operate this facility were great. I was asked if I wanted to work up some tomatoes. I said sure. I purchased a fresh head of cabbage (one of our favorites), peppers (red, green and yellow), onions, hot peppers, apples, canalope, grape tomatoes, both purple and yellow, plums. All of this produce was a total of $15. (large box full) Then I was presented with out 15 lbs of both red and yellow tomatoes that were soft, etc. not picture perfect for selling. Monday morning my work is cut out for me. I will drop these into boiling water to loosen up the skin. Then I will chop up and stew, then freeze. At our house, we try to use these tomatoes over channed ones. If we do not have any of these in the freezer, we use about 4 to 5 cans of stewed tomotes a week for the two of us.
These are some of our favorite foods and I prefer fresh frozen on my own to any other type. Too bad you cannot freeze cabbage. We usually eat a large head at our house every two weeks. These are usually 3 to 4 lb heads. We love it boiled, sauteed, in soups, slaw, etc.
I will be looking forward to my new lifestyle for weight loss
