Changing my mind?

I've been overweight my whole life. Well, since I was twelve. I've tried almost every diet I could find.

One thing I always refused to consider was weight loss surgery. Way too drastic and permanent. Plus, I really hate needles! A lot!

But since the trauma of being the maid of honor in a giant strapless dress, I've started to think about more drastic steps.

I know a few people who have done this successfully, plus many friends of friends.

So maybe it's time to reconsider.

PS: Yes, it's laparoscopic.

I had the surgery on Oct 20th.
Lost 50 pounds by Christmas, and I feel SO good!

Oh gosh, this is a huge personal decision. But if you've considered and I mean really considered it and not only for this single point in time (like the wedding) then go for it. Coming from a nursing perspective, make sure to check out the doc, hospital, etc. etc. Good luck with whatever you decide is best for you emoticon !

Whatever your decision good luck with it. I too have heard of success and failure stories but I doubt it will give us/ me the upper arms I so desire. Could you not persuade them to let you wear a little light jacket to make you feel happier. emoticon emoticon

Browsing my old friend pages and wanted to check in. Weight loss surgery is a very personal decision and has varied results. I know both kinds, successes and those who have gained over 200 lbs. back. The truth is that even though there is some success, the vast majority lose only about half or less of their excess weight. Feeling pressured by an event hasn't been shown to lead to long term maintenance, even if it results on short term loss. You deserve to win for the long run!

Okay, through shooting my mouth off except to add warmest wishes in this holiday season!

well I said what I said before really not giving an opinion but I saw some stuff on a tv show and now I'm giving you an opinion I think you should be proud of how you look right now in that dress, if you happened to lose weight that is great but I think you will look emoticon in the dress no matter what cause you are an emoticon person.

Friends who have had it have really had to shift their ways of eating to extremely tiny portions of limited types of food - otherwise they feel quite ill. There is a bit of psychological testing and meetings also to be sure you understand how your life will change (not by being thin but by how you will have to change your habits and ways of eating). It's not the easy fix most people think it is.

emoticon Whatever your decision best of luck! Just because it is or was right or wrong for others doesn't matter. Do what is best for YOU and hold your head high. Be as informed and educated as possible and follow your heart.

I'm here for you... Big hugs!

You are young and don't know yet the strength inside. Believe me you can do this! All of my operations were for health reasons. 2 spurs in feet, attachment of an tendant & 2 rods in my back all done before my 40's were over with.

Unless the operation can be done without the scars I wouldn't want to go that route. 5 operations here! I'm tired of staples and the scars that I will have the rest of my life.Next are 2 knee replacements. FUN??! NOT!
