Finally! Race Day

Saturday, September 19, 2015

I made it! I ran my first 5K in many, many years. The best part is that I met all my goals (not that they were that lofty).
- I completed the SparkPeople 5K Your Way program.
- I jogged the entire race.
- I was not the last person to finish.
- I beat my practice time.
I was thrilled with my, less than respectable, time of 52 mins. I know others would be totally shamed by such a time for a 3.1 mile race. However, I want to shout it from the mountain tops. My practice time was 55 mins and I had in my mind to be happy with anything under an hour.

Some may say I set my goals too low, but I prefer to think of them as realistic. The satisfaction of reaching my goals is tremendous. I feel fueled and ready to take on the next challenge.

Next challenge is run one race a month for a year. And, the October 5K will be under 50 mins.

@BRYSONX2 - You will do a great job when that first race rolls around. For me going back and forth between jogging and walking is difficult. Today the entire way, as I continued to jog in amidst all the walkers, I kept telling myself "I am running MY race". It doesn't matter what anyone else is doing around me. When I got to the finish line and the clock was clicking up to 52 minutes I was shocked. Pleasantly shocked, but still shocked that was a much better time than I anticipated.

Best of luck to you in your upcoming race! Post how you do. emoticon

Very nice! I'm getting ready to do my 1st ever, next month. I like your goals. I'm pretty sure I will walk some of it, though.
