OK, I'm doing.

I joined the 30-day-plateau-busting-challen
ge and today we are supposed to write about our exercise program. Well, my program isn't going too well although it is "doing".
Last winter I was all for swimming. I LOVE TO SWIM. I decided swimming wasn't enough. I needed to get some cardio so I joined a aqua-zumba class. I took that class long enough so that I thought I'd re-up for a year and paid in advance. Probably a week later I did something to my left knee - it still hurts after a year and crutches and multiple PT.
OK, I can't swim.
I can walk now without crutches and I am working at walking without a cane once I get up out of the chair. So, I got into walking and decided that I really can't walk well outside without a cane, balance issues and age (72), so I got a pair of NordicTrak wannabe poles. I LOVE WALKING WITH THE POLES. They are wonderful. I can walk standing upright and not leaning to one side as with the cane. My steps are bigger and I sweat a lot more without feeling like I'm really working out.
At the same time I found, via a sparkpeople blog - I wish I could remember who so I could thank her for turning me on - about Poi Dancing/Spinning. So, I put a small ball of rice in each of a pair of knee-high socks, cut the very end of the hole side to make a handle, hooked up my iPod, and went spinning and danced in the living room, kitchen, computer room, on the deck and on the grass as summer came on us.
Then, one day about two months ago I was getting up off the floor in Mom's room (94 next week) after trying to find something she dropped and I heard a small pop in my right shoulder. Two days later I was in pain!! PT and Doctr and going that route again.
But/And I haven't given up. OK, I can't walk outside - I can walk inside. Somehow I feel more secure. I started Leslie Sanson's walking videos - walk away the pounds - right in front of my computer (never hooked up the DVD player to the TV) and I do a modified Poi spinning/dancing - no overhead swinging and nothing to over tax the right arm.
So, although not as much as I would like, I'm an "A" personality, I'm doing.
Y'all have fun today and don't forget to get your hugs.
