That's a milestone

Tuesday, September 15, 2015

Today I'm bouncing back. I did the local race call the Aching Quad. My friend was the one who was ready for it, except that she was sick earlier in the week. I did what I could to train for it. There weren't many at my fitness level, because it's hard.
Friday night 5k
Saturday morning 1 mile run followed by a 2 mile run (we had time to stop by our office, use a real bathroom instead of a port-a-potty, have a small cup of coffee in between the races)
(I played a wedding in the afternoon)
Saturday night 5k

It's amazing how little interest you have in running after doing that. I had issues with my calves and my arch (the leg/ankle side that I broke in 2003) - and compression socks that others were wearing looked like they might be comfortable, and I found a groupon deal - buying something helped with knowing I will head out and pound the pavement again! I spent $12 with tax - so, not a break-the-bank purchase and worth it motivationally!

I came in last on both 5k's and last in time overall I believe. I am proud of my last place and EVERYONE was so supportive - I got cheers because afterall, everyone was waiting to tear down... but still, they were genuinely supportive.

The odd thing is that 2 weeks before, as my weight seems to have climbed since July, I decided to eat salads for dinner.... and my weight went up. My body is just different and I have to figure this out. I'm really looking forward to doing runs and being many pounds lighter. Yes, I'm heading back to salads because I found that night time snacking stopped when I had a big salad for dinner.

Besides improving my times, I'm going to train for the 10k distance. I have little motivation to train for anything longer. As my arch is a little tender yet, it's muscle work to get me back into the rhythm of working out. I have 2 5k's in October, so I will be out there soon!

I ended up with some inflammation in the leg that has all the screws in it from when I broke it in 2003. So, floor work only until all the pain is gone, and then I'll resume run training. It may mean that I do lots more walking for my 5k scheduled on 10/4 (Eleanor) (whoa, that's an old reference!)

Thanks! Turns out my leg got a bit inflamed, but I have medicine and I'm following through with R.I.C.E. I hope to resume training next week.

No special prize but lots of support! I wasn't last on the 1 and 2 mile races, but the 5ks, yeah, last. I'm still very happy to have finished them in that time frame! emoticon

WHOLE LOT of running there - good for you!

Did you get special prizes for coming in last? Some races do that - I was in a sailing race, we came in last and had special prizes, it was kind of fun!
