Beck Trek - Chapter 7 - Day 18 - Change Your Definition of Full

This is one of the chapters I skimmed over on my first run through Beck.

I am paying more attention to it this round. It has caught my attention because after lunch yesterday I was reading ahead...and I suddenly realized how stuffed I felt from my lunch. I like salads...BIG salads.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with that. My calories for the day were well within range. I ate all of the food because it was in my tracker and accounted for, not because I was still hungry.

There is something wrong with my not listening to my body and responding to the "full" feeling by stopping eating.

There are certainly times when I am eating the WRONG things and I feel full...yet I keep on eating.

I like the idea of stopping eating BEFORE I get to the point of fullness such that I would not be able to go for a brisk walk right after eating. This is a practical way to measure fullness that I intend to use going forward to help me make better decisions on when to stop eating.

    Good point. The need to listen to our bodies. Wish it were easier! Years and years of not doing so, of wrongfully eating.

    I don't yet feel the full sensation when I am eating my planned meals. I think I have been eating too much for so long that I will have to retrain myself to feel the fullness.

    Right you are. I have no idea what full actually feels like. And my tracker is doing the heavy lifting for me. I am determined to learn this skill though.

    It's amazing how new things leap off the page for me at each reworking of the Beck program.

    And I agree: stuffing myself with ANYTHING, even "good" stuff, is not a good idea.

    Yepper, semi-full is so much better for us than stuffed...no matter WHAT we're stuffed WITH!!! Even salads. Me too though...I'm still working on "things". Still trying to iron out those last little creases in my maintenance.

    Btw, is that a pic of pizza underneath your comment about eating the "wrong" things! You're makin' me hungry girlfriend!
