Well, I knew it before I got on the scale that I had gained weight over the past couple of weeks. Last week showed a 2 pound gain with another 2-pound gain again this week. I kind of expected it, albeit I did not do anything to mitigate it.

Over the past month, I've been suffering from seasonal allergies. In response, I’ve been taking antihistamines and analgesic. Additionally, I have decreased the amount of time I spend outdoors. By doing so, I reduced my main exercise activity (running/walking outdoor) by 2/3. Unfortunately, I did not substitute or replace this reduction with enough exercise to keep the calorie deficit needed to maintain or reduce my weight. In other words, I kept eating like I was running/walking 10 miles a day when I was only doing 3 or 4 miles on the elliptical, stationary bike, and/or treadmill.

It's a cool, clear Saturday morning in Southeast Texas. At 5 am it's in the mid-60s, perfect for running, but I have a headache, with sneezing, stopped up sinuses, and watery eyes. I just don't feel it! Hopefully the cooler weather will reduce the seasonal allergen and I can get back on the road.

Of course, this is not my first setback. I have to readjust and get back with the program, keep trying and do it!! Quitting is not an option. In my 61.7 years, I’ve learned to be quiet resilient. I'll just get back up, brush the dirt from my butt, and keep on going. After all, I'm a highly motivated, extremely ambition narcissist, with ADHD and a chocolate addiction who can't relate to failure (but that for another blog)

Nevertheless my friends, I have accomplished much in the year since I've returned to SparkPeople. I've lost 30 pounds and kept it off. I started running again, competing in 7 or 8 charity 5K races. I've reduced my blood pressure and eliminated the need for two BP drugs. I fit comfortably into almost all my clothes (except one suit). I'm eating healthier, sleeping sounder, and feeling better about myself. My overall health and wellbeing is excellent.

I’m confident with the help of SparkPeople and my Spark Friends’ support I’ll be successful. I want to thank you guys, my Spark Friends, for all your encouragement, comments and support. Without you and SparkPeople, I’m not sure if I could have accomplished the things I have. While I’ll never be the athlete I was 25 years ago, I have recaptured some of that spirit and I owe a debt of gratitude to all of you. Thank you Spark Friends and thank you SparkPeople.
