She Started Living the Life She'd Imagined.....

Wednesday, September 09, 2015

This one is a big deal...at least for me, anyway. In April of 2015, I was in a wheelchair, with a fractured knee. I started walking again on May 1. On May 10, I joined Sparkpeople. I have since lost 83 pounds. Did I ever think I could/would/should be doing this in April of 2015? No.

I found my Spark, somehow. I started eating healthy from the wheelchair, and when I got to Sparkpeople, I was raring to go, incredibly motivated to change myself. I am forever grateful for that time in that wheelchair, for it led me here, and I get better every single day.

I have joined something called the BLC...the Big Loser Challenge, which is an incredibly well thought out challenge with a number of teams, and I have been in the Training section for the past three weeks. I have lost 7 pounds while in the BLC Training. I have been doing exercises every day, yoga in the morning, bike riding and weight lifting at the gym, cardio before bed, but nothing has been as good to me or for me, as swimming.

I have started swimming every single day. Swimming is the best exercise I have ever done. The hard part is putting on a swimsuit and going to the pool. In April, I NEVER would have done this. Now, I go to the gym, work out with weights, ride my bike, then go swimming. I swim for 45 or more minutes every single day. My knees are happier than they have been with anything else I have done. I am losing weight consistently, and I credit swimming, and how good it makes me feel, for making this happen. I am sure the other exercises would like to get their two cents in here, and I am sure they help, but swimming is the use of a lot of muscles, and doing it in water, keeps them happy.

I am finally living the life I had always imagined, and it feels DAMNED good. (cue the violins...I have tears in my eyes..)

Go out and find an exercise that makes you feel good every single time you do it. It is exhilarating.

Spark on.

I have tears in my eyes too. That is an amazing transformation in such a short period of time. What is most important is not just the weight you've lost, but what you have found in your head and your heart that makes this dream into a reality.

You have found the Spark and it has brought you the life you always imagined.

Thanks for being such an inspiration to so many.

I agree there is nothing like swimming. But it is the ocean that calls me, which limits me to three days a week. Biking is another good one. My knees complained at first, but they soon realized I was tougher than there complaints were loud emoticon

emoticon on all you've accomplished emoticon

Your story is truly amazing. I can't thank you enough for all the support you have given me while I have been less than 100% and I also believe that this period of being limited with what I can do has given me that push I needed to do a much better job of taking care of myself. I am so happy for you for having lost all that weight so far and staying with it!

Oh Jane, I too found the pool the best, because of many issues, 2 knee replacements, spinal stenosis, and chronic arthritis through out my body, but alas My shoulder went, I am awaiting a shoulder replacement, so my swimming is on hold til I can get this repaired. I just do what this body can handle, chair exercises, walks etc, now I am having issues with my feet, seems like obstacles are thrown in my path every which way, but I will continue to do what I can. It just makes losing a little slower, and at 71 I can't afford to wait around lol!
You are doing so great, I'm happy to have met you here on Spark!
