Beck Trek - Chapter 6 - Days 11 and 12 - Hunger Games

Tuesday, September 08, 2015

I'm tired and I'm under a lot of work stress, so this has to be short.
Since this is my second time going through Beck, I knew these hunger games were coming. I did the "practice hunger tolerance" exercise last weekend, and the "hunger monitoring chart" yesterday. Even though I didn't do the exercises the first time through, these 2 days plus day 13 were the words that really caught my attention.
It's clear to me that when I nosh on the weekend...I'm not hungry, I'm not having cravings, I just WANT it.
I've tried to blame it on other things...but the only blame lies on me just not wanting to discipline myself when it comes to eating.

Right, there's all these rules during the week and pressure at work and having to do things out of obligation. On the weekend, we don't want to be bossed around, even by ourselves. That's also why I end up binging at night, too. Tired of doing what's right all the time.

I have the same exact experiences! There are times I just want, basically, the process of eating. Goodness knows why or when it started, but it's an ingrained habit now. I think the feeling you mentioned - "not wanting to discipline myself" - relates to trying to push against a solid habit. Such a hard thing to do! But one of the things I like about Beck is her focus on habit. It ain't easy, but her strategies do seem capable of replacing old habits with new ones. You can do this!
