Rewards start long before goal is reached

Today I am celebrating 25 pounds lost--a fun milestone number (and one that's taken an extra long number of weeks to reach -- I haven't had a loss in several weeks!).
I want to reflect on the fact that 3 months ago, there was no guarantee that I'd ever see this number. There's still no guarantee that I'll reach my ultimate goal (still double digits away, though I am more than halfway there now). But I did it anyway... and this time, for whatever reason, it all just clicked.
I think it's mainly because I'm NOT HUNGRY all the time. This time, I didn't "diet." I did make some tough, realistic choices about what I was going to eat on a daily basis. Out with soda. Out with sugar-laden lattes. Out with mindless chips and pretzels every single night after dinner. Out with frozen custard "because I've had a rough day" treats.
And it hasn't been that hard to say goodbye to. The first week or two I had to actually be strong and not just slide back into the "easy" go-to habit. After that... and after a near-immediate 8 pound loss... it's been remarkably easy to embrace my new way of eating. Partly because it's not really that restrictive. I eat a LOT of food every day, and it's GOOD FOOD. I'm off the sugar roller coaster--no more crashing mid-afternoon or dragging all morning. I sleep SO MUCH BETTER! No more late night gobbling of goodies, leaving my stomach over-full or roiling at bedtime. My skin is glowing from all the water and veggies and fruits. I literally look YOUNGER than I did 6 months ago. I absolutely feel younger.
If I could tell myself ONE THING back when I started this project, it would be this: The rewards come so much sooner than you think!! Back when I wrote down my goal number (42 pounds lost), and carefully calculated the number of weeks (estimating 1 pound a week, which has turned out to be uncannily accurate--though it actually comes off in fits and starts)... I sighed and thought "6 months or longer?!? I don't know if I can do this for that long!!!"
What I didn't realize was that, 3 months in, I'd be enjoying so many rewards!! It's not about "suck it up for 6 months and maybe then you'll look / feel better." Not at all!! I'm not at my goal yet, and I still have a LOT of belly fat to lose... but I am already enjoying each and every day waking up in this body that--amazingly--can still kick a$$ in its 40s.
