Addicted to Food? How's Your Cage?

A friend had shared a slightly different report on this study, and it had me intrigued. This one includes the bit about addicts in Portugal - oh, how I wish other nations would follow that example! Very promising. Some of the comments do offer some interesting "food for thought", but I believe, and have seen personally, how this can be so very true for food addicts, too. I think the after dinner munchies in front of the tv might be the most notorious offences of all. We all know how that happens; hard day at work, come home, slave away to get supper, homework, errands, sports, clubs, laundry, ... that never ending list, and too tired to do anything else but curl up with a bag of chips. Day after day, it becomes a lifestyle.
Time to open up that cage, add a new "park", whether around the block, back and forth between friends homes, make it a family habit/highlight, and step away from the bag of Doritos! (sorry, Frito-Lay)
Going for a nice walk is proven to reduce stress and improve sleep and health. If the knees can't handle walking or if you're like me and live too far out in the boonies to walk anywhere safely, then maybe bikes would be better. Whatever you do, find something that you'd rather do than eat! :D Find something more attractive than the fridge! :D Do it with people that you love, that you want to spend more time with! I'm so grateful for the social aspect of that study, too. They say rats are intelligent and social. Make them lonely and they'll find a way to fill the void. :( If you're lonely, find a friend! :D Lots of places have indoor or outdoor walking groups, now. If your area doesn't yet have one, maybe it'd be good for you to start one! Check in with your local mall or any large public building or track.
