On Sunday, Dog Mom Rests!

Sunday, August 30, 2015

Okay, both kids maintained for another year. Bitsee has to lose 3 pounds of the nearly 14 she is waddling around with and her granny will be the biggest part of that challenge. Peanut could stand to lose a pound so dietry changes have been duly implemented. For Dog Mom and Granny as well.

Mom has been scrambling eggs for her grand-dogs since the second or third day they came home, and the girls love their warm brekkie. So would I for that matter but an extra-large egg has about 80 calories and the girls only need about 150-175 for the entire day. A big breakfast expenditure and a relatively small volume, which works for us pretty well but not for them. For this week, we have agreed she can scramble one egg to split between the two of them mixed with their light Science Diet wet. Fewer calories, more volume, fuller children. Maybe I should switch to Science Diet and crackers myself. Maybe no crackers. LOL

At the price of eggs these day, having them share one sounds like a great idea. So Mom is the "culprit" on this one it sounds like. Bless her heart...but it's better to have them healthy than over-fed.

I wonder if scrambling egg whites would reduce the calories and still give them a treat... It's so hard to look into those eyes that are used to getting a special breakfast!

Try adding some veggies for volume and not added calories. Dogs love green beans (which you can use as a treat too), carrots (not to many) and broccoli. Just see what they like and make them full but not adding to their waistline.

We love our pets. However we need to watch their diet also.
