I Learn Something New Everyday!

Friday, August 28, 2015

Week 3, Day 2 and I continue to learn as a I go. Here's what I have learned in the last week and a half.

1) Resting is not as easy as it sounds. I Week 1 I did great with the cross-training days but not so much with the resting day. I wanted to run I actually had to hold myself back and I did cave and got in a walk at a very slow pace.

2) Running is easier than blogging. Initially I had planned to blog after every run. While I am running my mind is really active. I have all these ideas and epiphanies that I think go into a blog post. However, by the time I drive home from the track I just don't have the drive to sit down at the computer and compose. Nor do I remember half of what I thought about during the run.

3) Week 1 was easier than Week 2 & so on and so on. I felt great in Week 1. As Week 2 started I began to really feel some aches and pains. Mostly, as I slowed to the walking intervals my legs/ankles really hurt. New insoles and perseverance have helped me stick with it. I also reverse direction on the track so that I balance out the turns and that seems to help. Week 3 got off to a slow start. I am sticking with it, but I do not feel I am getting any better.

4) I need to decompress before I can run. Today I decided I was going to run right after work. I packed my workout gear and changed at work. Stopped at the bank drive thru and went straight to the track. It was awful. I had no rhythm. It was hot and buggy. Nothing was going right. By the second running interval I decided to quit and come back later. I went home - vegged a bit, watched the evening news and made it back to the track around 7 and had a really good run. I even did the complete set of intervals and did not give myself credit for the false start. Needless to say I hit my 12,000 step goal for today.

Tomorrow I have plans to walk with two friends and my goal is to run in the morning before church on Sunday. We will see if those plans come to fruition.
