Facebook is Fattening

Working for the schools, I have excess time in the summers for all the things I should be doing to improve my health. Researching exercises, reading up on nutrition, experimenting with new recipes, exercising, streamlining healthy food shopping... What I have found, though, is that Facebook has sucked me down the worm hole almost every single day, and now my summer is gone. I have never wasted more time in my enter life and missed so many opportunities for quality workouts! My resolution, starting now, is to limit all social media to 20 minutes per day. I might dedicate more to Sparkpeople daily, so I can log my food and interact for motivation and support, but social media in general is sucking my life away right before my eyes. Given that I was so uninterested in social media for so long, I am surprised to discover that Facebook is so fattening for me.

    Social media is addicting. My plan was to be offline before 8:30. At 10:30, I keep saying that I'll just read one more blog. Good luck to you!

    I can't agree more .. i have to carry a BB for work and i had to enforce a shutdown period b/c it turned into looking at it TOO much .. as for FB i HAPPILY went on vacation and didn't log in for over 10 days -- when i returned i didn't log in for another 2 days and then i only log in sporadically b/c it was addicting and hours would go by b4 i realized they had .. i've never went back to the amount of time i spent on there ... i encourage everyone to scale back

    I've cut WAY down on FB. I've even been NOT going on FB for days at a time. Meanwhile my family lives on FB. I can't even get their attention to talk to them. Getting sucked into a wormhole sums it up pretty good. I focus on my fitness now. SP is it.

    I used to play alot of games on Facebook. Then 1 year for lent I gave them all up, and never played again :)

    I spend about 30 minutes a day on SparkPeople now instead of facebook. I find it's inspiring and there are less mac and cheese recipes lol..

    Funny, I posted to one of the chat forums on one of my teams a very similar post. I actually was railing against the guilt induced by FB. Several sources of it there. But really, there are reasons I kept it at arms length all these years and will continue to do so. It's so easy to waste time there. And it's not usually a time-waster that's stress busting, right? I mean, if it helped you feel GOOD, I'd say yeah, go for it. Good job weeding out the things that don't work for you!

    i will agree with you 100%! When this phone wasn't in my face I was moving most of the day, where now I find myself on my big behind most of the day! Change is needed for me as well!!

    I tend to be more productive when I put the phone down and step away from the pc. Self-motivation can be challenging sometimes. Hang in there!
