Can't Afford No Pity Parties!

Sunday, August 09, 2015

What all of us need to remember, and Lord knows I get down like everyone else, is that we can't afford to feel sorry for ourselves. We have to do as much as we can do every day or we risk becoming able to do nothing at all. Lots of days, I have to push through the pain to even get my feet on the floor in the morning, quite literally holding on to the furniture until I can get all my moving parts to doing the work of walking. It isn't fun to know that it will ultimately get worse instead of better but I'm still not ready to throw in the towel for at least another 20 years.

This speaks to more than just our physical limitations. We have houses that need to be cleaned, children that need to be raised, goals to achieve, etc., and unless we keep plugging at them, we are doomed to a life of unhappiness filled with a sense of failure and haunted by the "might have hads."

So take your day off, feel sad, eat some ice cream...then, plug back in and get on with living.

    I hear you!

If we were wallowing in self pity my mom would ask, "Isn't it about time you got off your pity pot?" The question was never asked maliciously. It was spoken in a polite, nudging manner to move us along without discounting our feelings.

I suffered through plantar fasciitis for thrree years and have been dealing with daily pain for 17 months now from a fractured pelvis. So, yeah we can crumble or we can conquer. I choose to conquer.
