Will be needing a new computer

Saturday, August 08, 2015

Well, the computer problem wasn't the "easy fix" I thought it was going to be. It turns out the problem is with the processor inside the computer. I can't remember exactly how the tech put it, but basically, as far as processors go, it's one of the lowest in quality, and my current computer was one that was made to last about 2 years. I guess the fact that I'm still able to use it all after 3 years means that I am lucky. So, they were not able to get the USB ports or the camera card slot working. I also asked if it could be changed back from the Windows 8.1 to Windows 8, and I was told once it's updated like that, there is no going back.

So, I'm going to have buy another computer. We (Penny was with me today) looked at some options while we were there, but I was so tired (we stopped in there after she took me grocery shopping), and not expecting to be told my current computer could not be fixed, that I was feeling overwhelmed; not the best time to make a decision about a major purchase, so we are going to wait until Monday and then I will decide which one I will go with.

I'm thankful my current computer at least works for now for being able to get online, and my printer works with it too. The last time I had to replace a computer, my old one had crashed completely and I was without a computer for several days until I could get my new one.

I'd be lost indeed without my computer. With the health issues related to the cancer, I'm not able to get out a lot, so my computer is like my "lifeline" for being able to socialize. I also pay most of my bills online, and there are certain things I order online instead of going to the store because I'm not able to drive now. I also rely on being able to get my lab and other medical test results online instead of having to go to the hospital to pick them up, or waiting to get them from my doctors.

I'm so glad Penny is here this week! She is helping to keep me sane and not to feel so overwhelmed. A lot going on this week again; CBC on Monday, and depending on those results, possibly a transfusion, and possibly another CBC on Thursday; pain clinic appointment Tuesday, and also on Tuesday, I have a meeting at the bank because I have a CD that has reached maturity and I have to decide what to do with it. And somewhere in that week, fitting in another trip to the grocery store.

My geek just left.. I needed a cleanup on the desktop and the fan died on the laptop,, it took almost two months for him to get the fan shipped. We are all square now, but I also need it daily.. Good luck,, does anybody at your church BUILD pc's? IT is much cheaper than buying one straight out.. If it is a laptop, I guess that is a moot point...

It's easy to feel overwhelmed with issues like this, even when you're feeling your best! You're so right about the blessing computers are, though. They enable us to be in touch with others and continue to be part of a community even when our health or distance would ordinarily prevent that. Good for you for recognizing that!

    Dear Shari,
I can understand your disappointment about your computer needing to be replaced. I hope you can get a replacement at a reasonable price. Thank goodness you can still use your current one in the meantime. My laptop crashed earlier this year and I was a bit lost without online banking and bill paying, as well as keeping in touch with friends.
I am so glad Penny is able to offer you moral support and be with you when you need her help.
You sure do have a busy week ahead. Praying that all goes well for you with everything.
Take care - love and hugs, Nattacia

My computer is my lifeline too. I hope you can get by with your old one. It's typically such a stress to learn a new operating system. They're out with Windows 10 now, and its a free upgrade for a year for people with Windows 8 and 8.1.

You have so much to do! I wish I could stop the world from turning around for a few days so that you could catch your breath.

I'm so emoticon about your computer Shari, I do hope that Monday with Penny helping you a new computer can be purchased...I understand about the computer being a life line, I rely on mine as there are some days I can't be out due to my health issues so having a computer does help, like paying bills and doing online banking makes all the difference. My prayers are with you this week as you go through another series of blood tests and the appointment at the Pain Clinic. Trusting for a good report for you... emoticon
