Being Back at Sparkpeople for the 3rd Time

This is the 3rd time I have used Spark People and each experience has and is unique in itself. This time I am only 5 lbs away from a goal I set the first time I was here. That means it took me 4 years to lose 60 pounds of the 90 I had gained from medications. I also have a whole different attitude compared to 4 years ago. Then it was all the things I could not do because of my constant pain, where as now I look at what I CAN do even with my pain. My main exercise is walking. I was sent to the Mayo Clinic last October for a 2nd opinion on my colon issues. After the Dr. finished telling me his reasons for my issues, which was drug toxicity and took me immediately off of 6 of my drugs, he told me I needed to exercise and the best thing I could do would be warm water aerobics or therapy. I would LOVE to do that but I do not have any means of transportation to get the 15 miles to the Y. He then said the 2nd best thing you can do for yourself is walk. Well I used every excuse not to do it then as it was getting colder and then winter.
Then 3 weeks ago an old and dear friend of mine posted on facebook that she had just lost 39 pounds in 3 months. I went wow how did she do it? So I asked and she said portion control and walking. I thought dang if she can do it and she has a lot more back pain then I do I most certainly can do it. Then I looked back and realized that without my knowledge I had already lost 24 pounds in 4 months with just my diet. Which I thank spark for teaching me how to eat decently and healthy. I babysit my 3 grandchildren ages 6, 4 and 22 months 14 out of every 28 days in 2 or 3 day increments and the boys have always bugged me to go for walks. After deciding I was going to start walking which was on a Wednesday evening, I took a walk up town to the store and pharmacy, I thought it was a total of half a mile until I came back here this week and mapped it out, it is a mile. Then I went to my sons on friday to babysit for the next 3 days and sat my 2 little guys down and asked them if they would like to help Nana get skinny. They asked how and I told them, no actually I promised them that everyday that I am at their house we would go for a walk as long as the weather was good and they had behaved before we went. Now mind you I have never broken a promise to them and they remind me of that all the time as their other grandparents always break them. We have gone everyday I have been here except for 1 and that was because they were naughty. We have two different types of walks we take. The block around their house is .34 miles when we just go around the block they get to ride their bikes and we go anywhere from 3-5 times around the block. Our other walk approximately 1 1/3 miles long we walk down to a park and go around the back of their block then walk down to the park and when we come back we go down another block and back up to their house. Only once have they complained and that was because we went in the afternoon when it was too hot now we go around 10 in the morning and get back home in time to make lunch and then have rest/nap time. I have not weighed myself except for after the first week and that week I had lost 5 pounds. I plan on weighing myself in the morning to see if I have made anymore progress.
I am really happy to be back at this site for all the tools it gives me to help on this part of my journey.
