What a GREAT day!

Thursday, July 02, 2015

First of all, the last 2 days have been really busy and stressful. I wasn't sure if I could even manage to get a Spark spin in both days. But I thought about my teammates, my Sparkfriends, and managed a smidgen of time. But not much. And I know my team was probably going...hey, where's that wordy girl, Lisa?

What I've been doing: mainly, I've been preparing my son for a very important appointment. Today was his first audiology assessment to determine if he has an auditory processing disorder. I pretty much know he does, but I need an audiologist to do the assessment and write a report so that I can start getting him more help. I was VERY nervous. I spent a lot of time working on our sleep, preparing him for what might happen, doing a dry run on what little I knew at home, and getting things lined up (filling out 100+ questions on 2 forms, rescheduling other appointments we had, how to get there, how much time it would take, how much food to bring for both of us so I didn't make bad decisions). I tried to tell him that it might be fun, they seemed like funny people. I even thought of jokes I could crack in the long car ride there to get him in the right mood.

And all that prep work paid off. Even though when we first got there he flatly refused to go in the testing booth, we kept it light and he eventually agreed to "try it for just a little bit." Then, he did GREAT! He cooperated and even was laughing so hard at one point that he couldn't talk anymore. And she did find one area of need already. He did so well that they did more testing than originally planned, so we now only have to have 2 appointments instead of 3! So we go back in 2 weeks and I won't have to be so freaked out leading up to it.

And then I come home, flip open the laptop and my team has filled the wall with the sweetest things! I felt so filled with joy that I just had to blog about my day. I have to rush off to make dinner now, but I couldn't let another hour go by without saying a huge THANK YOU to all my amazing team members who make my life more joyful every day!

I'm so glad I came and found your blog. Like you I get too busy and miss things.... but things have to get done. Hurray! Hurray and hurray! Isn't it fantastic when your efforts pay off.... and how wonderful to find some areas... but see that there are some areas that are fine. And DS was laughing. Oh that is a joy too. Sometimes I fear people only see the side of DD that is a "problem" and I want them to see the other side too. Of course what they don't see is all the support that went into getting DS to that point. So... you rock!
