Preparing for the 4th

Wednesday, July 01, 2015

As this work week comes to a close, I am nearing a weekend full of food, food, and more food. I've been instructed to make no-bakes for my grandparents - and how can I refuse? I have been asked to make some rice krispie treats for my husband, and of course I will! I've also been invited to a family cookout where they are making me some actually vegan dishes! Which is great, but means I need to think ahead to manage this weekend!
My cookie strategy will be to save some no-bakes for the grandparents, and take the rest of the cookies to the family cookout. Problem solved! Sharing is caring.
I will need to make sure I don't overdo it with the rice krispie treats, as they are delicious. Usually I eat a light dessert after dinner, so I will just replace any sort of dessert with my rice krispie treat. Hopefully this will help me avoid binging.
Being around family always tends to make me want to eat more, but I'm hoping that being home in the suburbs with ample parks and outdoor activities to pursue will be a good outlet for any extra calories I vacuum up.
All in all, I feel ready for this weekend. I've encouraged my family to buy lots of fresh fruit and let them know what I'll be eating on the grill (tofu skewers!). Preparation is absolutely key when it comes to family get-togethers.
Happy 4th of July everyone!
