A poem worth sharing

Tuesday, June 30, 2015

A reminder for all of us today from the gifted Derek Walcott:

Love After Love (we can't read this too many times!) --

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

P.S. Hilarious! I see now that I posted this June 26 in the Thanksgiving Community. Well, lol, we know Stephanie (likely Ann as well) didn't read my gratitudes for that day. hahaha

This is the first I've read of Derek Walcott. Methinks I will be reading more. Thanks so much for sharing!

One of my favorite things about poetry, and songs for that matter, is that so much is left to the interpretation of the reader/listener. Those interpretations differ, obviously from our own life experiences!
