Touching Lives

I went to a friend's funeral today. The tribute written by her children was so sweet, I wanted to share it with my spark friends:

"In the end it's not about your bank account, your house or your car but about the lives you have touched, the pain you've helped ease and the values you have taught and lived. Our mom has left behind a great legacy.

From feeding the homeless, to doing volunteer work with the Red Cross all across the nation, to teaching the Hooter Girls about CPR and what to do if someone's chocking or even teaching half the people living in Bear Lake how to swim - she left her mark.

Most people won't remember her name but they'll remember that moment of comfort she brought them, the lifting of a burden, or the skill that was learned and the help that was given.

We are proud to say that we are your children and grandchildren, MOm, we love you and miss you."

This was such a sweet sentiment written by her children that I wanted to share it with everyone. My friend lived in a tiny home in the inner-city part of town. She was quiet, humble and unassuming. She loved everyone for who they were. She taught swimming lessons for the Red Cross, and put in many volunteer hours for the Red Cross. She traveled the country helping during disasters. She helped during 9/11, and several hurricanes including, Hugo, Rita, Sandy and Katrina. She sent me a letter from Katrina telling of the devastation that she saw there and the needs of the people she was trying to help. It deeply touched my heart that she would so willingly and generously leave her home to help strangers build new homes of their own. She was also involved with the local shelters, and local disasters. She worked many years with the Boy Scouts of America. An amazing women with an amazing legacy who touched countless number of lives of people who will never know her or known what she's done for them.

She lived in a tiny humble home on Earth - but I'm sure she'll dwell in a Heavenly Mansion on high. Love you Carma, you will always be an inspiration to me!!!!!
