Cyberbullying

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

I learned, from the teaching tolerance magazine, a couple of resources for parents and friends to help their child or someone they know to avoid being a victim of or to deal with cyberbullying, promote positive self esteem, and in general encourage young people to use the internet safely and for doing good. The first site is for parents uk.news.yahoo.com/safer-

and the second site is by two sisters, ages 19 and 17, who set up a website tbytmedia.com/resources/ called "Think before you type" designed to combat cyberbullying by posting interviews with young influential guests, blogs, vlogs and resources dealing with the subject. The first link I gave above was taken from a list or resources posted by the two sisters at the above link to their site.
Cyberbullying is a serious matter and can affect almost any child, even those who appear to be doing well socially. All too often the issue is not brought to the parents attention until much damage has already been done to the child's personality or well being. Parents of children under the age of 19 should consider visiting the first site I gave a link to to help prevent their child from being a victim of cyberbullying and related matters such as identity theft on the internet.
