Dancing moved the scale

Friday, June 12, 2015

Finally...the scale budged! I lost 1-1/2 pounds!

It has been soooo long since I've seen any progress, so I'm really doing a happy dance to see this. Yes, I mean DANCING!

I'm having a blast dancing to YouTube videos. I joined the SparkTeam, Dance Like Nobody's Watching. Check out the thread in that team called TEAM DANCE PARTY! People can post some song suggestions to dance to. I've had so much fun looking at videos and thinking about what to post that day. Some days I end up dancing an hour or more.

I had forgotten how much I used to enjoy dancing. In my early 20s I would often see bands on the weekend and dance for hours. As I got older and didn't like the bands or going to bars any more, I stopped dancing and didn't listen to much music. Now I've discovered YouTube. It's amazing. All my old favorite bands and songs are there, with so many versions (the album originals, live concerts, etc.). And I'm finding out about new music on the forum.

One song that I'm CRAZY about this week is called Shut Up and Dance, by a band called Walk the Moon. Honestly, this song should come with a warning label...it gets stuck in your head! The main video to it is:

But there are probably 25 different videos of this song. People edit a bunch of movie clips with this song in the background. My favorite is a fan video Dr. Who compilation:

You can't help but get up and move around when it's on. I've even found it on my TV's cable "on-demand" section, so now I can see it any any room with a TV. I put it on while making dinner or cleaning and dance around a bit then too.

Anyway, the exercise has made me feel better this week, instead of feeling like a slug. And the music has lifted my mood and seems to help any depression or obsessive thoughts about what I'm going to eat that day. I think the exercise is also helping any aches and pains...must be the good endorphins.

Just wanted to share what's helping me this week. Best of luck to everyone. Feel free to join me in a dance!

I used to love dancing when I was younger, even as a pre-teen. I had older brothers, and we used to dance to a TV show named Hullabaloo. Picture girls in cages wearing go go boots, dancing to mid-sixties pop music. As a young adult, I liked going out dancing, too.

This is a great way to exercise and enjoy yourself at the same time. Brilliant, as the English say. Keep on dancing!

I have heard of the team you mentioned. Like you, teens and twenties I was dancing so much. I also was not heavy. I need to go back to this idea of dancing and enjoying myself. Think i will check on the team.

Congrats on your weight loss. emoticon
