3 Questions to Check Yourself (Before You Wreck Yourself)

One of the most effective ways I’ve found to determine if my expectations for a goal are realistic or not is to ask myself three questions:

1. How will my life be better when I have/get/do [really awesome thing]?

2. How will my life be worse when I have/get/do [really awesome thing]?

3. How will my life be the same when I have/get/do [really awesome thing]?

And as a bonus, sometimes I ask…

4. How will I have to change to have/get/do [really awesome thing]?

Back when I was first losing weight, I wish I’d ask myself these questions. If I had, I’d have realized that I expected my life to be drastically different when I was thin: I’d be rich, happy and hot. I also would have realized that Life – circumstances, the world out there that was outside of my control – would continue to happen. And as for the biggie, I would have realized that I’d have to change my mindset more than I had to change my body in order to be successful.

Don’t underestimate the power of these questions. These three paths of better, same, worse are options in any situation. Which path will you choose?
