Making plans

I am a planner and list-maker. Seeing my goals, steps and progress on paper help me stay on track and motivated.

My family is going on vacation at the end of the week. We'll spend a week on a beach with my husbands family. I expect there will be a lot of food and even some drinking. I am looking forward to sunshine and quality time.

I am planning to get in daily jogs and walks, drink lots of water and eat in moderation. I know finding a balance during that week can be done but honestly, I am not going to stress about it. It is one week.

This week, as vacation approaches, I will make a plan. June 15 will be my Day 1. I want to plan my meals and snacks, start running on a regular basis and weight train.

Do you plan everything to a T? Try to wing it? Or do you have a plan that you loosely follow?

    I just try to stay very active while on vacation and eat in moderation, I don't let it be an all out fest like in years past and it works well. I was just on vacation last week and the thing I noticed is that we eat out a whole lot less now that we have taken up this lifestyle change where before when I was on vacation, we ate out at least once a day and some of would be fast food. I still track for the most part while on vacation but have a few indulgences like dessert because I am going to enjoy life too! Have fun!

    We usually vacation at the beach for a week each year. I usually make up 2 dishes and freeze them; they don't thaw out during our 5 1/2 hour drive. Eating homecooked meals twice during that week ensures my sodium won't go sky high -- and frankly, these days we like our home-cooked meals more than most restaurant meals anyway!

    YESICANLOSE20, I am definitely not trying to come back with extra weight. We are vacationing with three other families (staying in a house together) and while we have some meals planned, we do not have an entire week planned. My daughter and I will be jogging or walking in mornings or evenings. I tend to have an obsessive personality, especially when it comes to weight loss. I am going to use this week as a reset for myself and then come back with a solid plan. I will make good choices where I can but allow myself to enjoy. One of my biggest goals is to find balance. So if I plan to have a couple of glasses of wine, then I can squeeze in an extra walk in my day. By no means is this trip an excuse to be (completely) unhealthy or to allow myself to be unresponsible. My brain is not wired for free-for-all, thank goodness lol emoticon

    I don't plan everything to a T but I am not a spontaneous person and if going on vacation I would have an idea of my meal plans and exercise. I would check out the restaurants and look at the menus. If I am sightseeing would all the walking be enough or would I also pick a hotel with a gym. I never go on vacations saying it is O.K. to eat unhealthy. Coming back 5 pounds heavier would make me unhappy and could take weeks to lose.
