House sold yesterday!

Sunday, May 31, 2015

We had the auctions yesterday morning for my parent's house, and for the contents that my sister and I chose not to keep. I didn't have to be there, and I chose not to be, because of my health issues it would have been too tiring for me, and with my immune system being compromised, I didn't need to be among crowds of people either.

The auction for the house went well; within 20 minutes of starting, the house was sold. The auction for the contents didn't go as well, there was a low turnout in large part because of the weather (it was windy, rainy, and chilly) and most of the items were placed outside; it was not exactly the kind of weather that people want to be spending outdoors and browsing through stuff. Most of the leftover items will be donated to a local domestic violence shelter; what they can't use at the shelter, they can sell in their resale shop which helps to fund their program. I'm ok with that; it's not about the money for me.

After the auction, Penny brought her daughter and son in law over to my place. They took a heavy piece of exercise equipment out of the house for me which Penny will later sell in a yard sale for me. It's something I cannot use anymore because of my hip issues, so there was no reason to keep it and have it taking up space. Her SIL also replaced two broken doorknobs for me inside the house, and put up a ceiling fan for me in the living room. I bought that fan several years ago, but never got around to finding someone to hook it up for me. It got stored away in my spare bedroom, (out of sight, out of mind) and we found it again last week when Penny was working on cleaning that room out for me.

So, everything concerning my parent's estate is almost done, at least the biggest things now, which included the house. Life will never be the same as it was before my parents died, of course, but now that we can get finish up with all the "practical" matters, hopefully life will settle down to some sort of normal once again.

    Dear Shari,
I understand the feeling of limbo when there are still loose ends to be attended to with an estate, and even though it is a closing of a chapter, I am glad the house sold quickly and that concern is behind you. It's great that your ceiling fan is installed. I hope it makes the summer weather more bearable for you. Praying that life will feel more settled for you now.
    Hugs, Nattacia

That sounds like the best way to get things done-sorry the sale of the household items didn't go so well, but I would also feel good about donating it to a shelter store or a habitat store like we have down the street from our house. It's great to have friends like yours!

Sheri, I'm glad the sale is over as bitter sweet as it was. It's another chapter closed and begin anew on the next chapter...You! I remember feeling like a load had been taken off our shoulders when my parent's home finally sold some 2 years later. emoticon

Auction sale of your parents house and house hold goods is bitter/ sweet. We went through the same thing with my husbands fathers home a few years ago. Once the house sold it was so nice to have the estate settled.

Glad the sale went well and fast. It is one less worry for you and like you said, you can now settle down to normal.

It was very thoughtful of Penny's SIL to help by installing your fan. Now on cool day you can save on the air-conditioning and use the fan only.

Hope you have a relaxing Sunday evening.

HOORAY! So happy the sale went so quickly. I am sure it was very bittersweet, but in general, it went so well. As someone here commented....the things you are donating will bring so much joy to other's even though you won't be aware of it all. So very nice of Peggy to help you so much.....Sorry for your inclement weather. It's weird all over the place....super sunny and warm here in NorCal right now.....well, that's not totally correct....yesterday was in the 90's...today it has dropped down into the 80's and that's most doable.....now if we could only get a "little" water....mind you, I said "little"......I so feel for those folk in TX and the rest of the South.....nasty, nasty, nasty!!! Way too much of a good thing!

Glad that the sale went off ok. The 'new' normal will begin shortly. I found the 'new normal' without parents rather strange. We didn't have to do the house sale thing. They left everything to my younger sister, job done.
So sorry for your loss, time really is a great healer. The great times are carried within you.

Oh what a huge lift off your shoulders!! One more step to less stress. Keep in mind the enormity of your donation to hundreds of people you will never meet. Donating a pillow may not seem much to you, but to somebody who lost everything and does not even own one now, your generosity is wonderful! God Bless you for that!

The wind is so bad here now anything I would have on the clothesline would be blown away a long time ago,,it would be in YOUR yard by now!! Sorry the bad weather stuck around for the sale.

Sorry the items did not sell well but I am so glad you are donating them to such a good cause, they can so use donations! So glad, too, you got the other things done, especially the ceiling fan! That will be such a help!
Hope the rest of your Sunday is restful and pleasant!

Glad the sale went well, less for you to deal with. Smart that you stayed home you definitely didn't need to be around a lot of people. Wonderful that you decided to donate things to domestic violence center. I am sure it was appreciated. So glad that Penny and her SIL were able to help you in the house. I know you will appreciate the fan as it gets hotter. Hugs have a great evening.
