House sold yesterday!
Sunday, May 31, 2015
We had the auctions yesterday morning for my parent's house, and for the contents that my sister and I chose not to keep. I didn't have to be there, and I chose not to be, because of my health issues it would have been too tiring for me, and with my immune system being compromised, I didn't need to be among crowds of people either.
The auction for the house went well; within 20 minutes of starting, the house was sold. The auction for the contents didn't go as well, there was a low turnout in large part because of the weather (it was windy, rainy, and chilly) and most of the items were placed outside; it was not exactly the kind of weather that people want to be spending outdoors and browsing through stuff. Most of the leftover items will be donated to a local domestic violence shelter; what they can't use at the shelter, they can sell in their resale shop which helps to fund their program. I'm ok with that; it's not about the money for me.
After the auction, Penny brought her daughter and son in law over to my place. They took a heavy piece of exercise equipment out of the house for me which Penny will later sell in a yard sale for me. It's something I cannot use anymore because of my hip issues, so there was no reason to keep it and have it taking up space. Her SIL also replaced two broken doorknobs for me inside the house, and put up a ceiling fan for me in the living room. I bought that fan several years ago, but never got around to finding someone to hook it up for me. It got stored away in my spare bedroom, (out of sight, out of mind) and we found it again last week when Penny was working on cleaning that room out for me.
So, everything concerning my parent's estate is almost done, at least the biggest things now, which included the house. Life will never be the same as it was before my parents died, of course, but now that we can get finish up with all the "practical" matters, hopefully life will settle down to some sort of normal once again.
