I hadn't done this race in two years. I figured I should since it was Dunedin Parks & Rec putting it on and I collaborated with them on many occasions as Chair, for the City's Public Relations Advisory Action Committee. (That's a mouthful!)
Told D to wake me up race morning and I would decide whether to go to the Starting Line or not.
She woke me up saying, "The hogs are calling!" I got up, and decided I would use it as a training run! D had a spa appt. and I would meet her for breakfast downtown after.
Same great race site venue as always! Home of Spring Training Toronto Blue Jays & Florida State League Dunedin Blue Jays!
I rarely sign up on race day but...
I started running at 60 and it hit me as I was filling out the form...this was my last run in the 60-64 Age Group!
Always a joy meeting up with Outspokin Tri Teammates..
Jen is my running mate so we decided to hog hustle together!
We started towards the front of the pack and decided to get out ahead of most of the pack. We got into a good pace. Jen was feeling good so we stepped it up. Uh, seemed to have forgotten this was a training run!
The course does a circle outside the stadium through the gorgeous local neighborhood then out to the coastline where we could run surrounded by gorgeous palm trees, a beautiful view of Clearwater Beach, and the St Joseph's Sound.
We went back into Dunedin's historical neighborhood then headed to that last burst back to the stadium. We both felt good coming down the stretch. I did feel a hamstring tweak but crossed the Finish Line strong. I always enjoy running with my runbud Jen!
First line of business...hit the H2O then the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast! Why is it pancakes, beer, or anything for that matter, taste so good after a race?
I went back to check out the results wall, saw my Age Group times, and didn't see my name. I realized my name had no age to it, went to the timers, they edited the results appropriately, gave me ALL the new race results, and asked me to run them to the awards ceremonies. I gave them the results, headed back to hit some more pancakes...then heard my name called! My last 60-64 Age Group race and I won it!
For me, it was the perfect benchmark in my short run life! More importantly, my friends wanted to celebrate my win with me. I love my life!
You're looking at two BFF triathletes with a special bond! Together, we lost a total of 215 pounds! I'm happy for Casey 'cause he's young and has his whole life ahead of him.
My dear friend and elite runner, Cheryl, who I met at a very early race in my run life! She is always there to inspire, motivate, & encourage me! She wanted to share the moment with a shot together. The last time we did this, we won Girl Scout Thin Mints together!
I must say I am pretty proud of this award! It's funny, and at the same time, so true too!
So, I guess everything happens for a reason! Embrace every day & thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment!
