Stay Curious

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Recently I have heard two "women of a certain age", Candice Bergen and Jane Fonda, separately express the same thing that has kept them feeling young and invigorated as they age. They both said "Stay Curious"!

I'm approaching a birthday in August, my 63rd, and have always subscribed to the notion that each year is a blessing and that I'm fortunate to wake up each day alive and breathing. The words "stay curious" have continued to circle in my mind because they encompass every aspect of my life. Although I'm a seeker and love staying open minded, the ones who most keep me feeling young and curious are my grand kids.

Last week we had more unexpected rain in Southern California. It was heavenly, but the awe and wonder in my grand kids' eyes, who have seen very little rain in their short lives, gave me a new pair of glasses. They had so many questions........they were so CURIOUS! My grandson asked me to take him outside to touch it. Of course I did. But, not to exaggerate, it almost felt like feeling rain for the first time!

I snapped a picture of them gazing outside during the "storm" (I hear you laughing, people in other parts of the globe).

Let's all remain curious and, of course, courageous!
Thank you Spark friends, as always, for your support!

Curious, is always a great thing! Thanks for checking out my blog, I wandered over to yours as well, it's a bit older, but still a golden nugget of wisdom for any day. I had to smile about the rain, I live in Iowa and we have the best spring thunderstorms, the winds change, and energy in the air feels alive, and when the rolling clouds come with the thunder, my body feels at rest, as a child we would sit on the front porch swing and watch the show as it came and went. Best wishes.

I know this post is almost two years old but I liked the comment you made today on a Spark blog so thought I would stop by and look around. I so agree with staying curious to keep us mentally young. I am your age and also live in Southern California.

How wonderful to experience the world through children's eyes! Their curiosity, excitement for anything new and their sense of wonder are things to try and maintain throughout our lives.
This blog, even if it was about rain, was really heart-warming. Thank you!

Wow! This brought tears to my eyes. We have so much rain that we take it for granted. I hope they enjoyed the smell. We always say you can smell rain, and when my kids were young dancing in the rain was a favorite activity! You'll have the get the neighbors talking by dancing in the rain with your grands next time! Love your optimism!

    Leslie, this is so inspiring!

I believe that to keep learning has helped me to "stay young". And adding more movement was just a plus.
Also, having my GrandGirls living across my driveway this past year has also kept me moving - both mentally and physically.
My friends and I were talking recently about this. I believe we are "younger" than our parents or grandparents were at the same age. Not one of us believe that our chronological age should determine how old we truly are.
And your statement gives me a third reason to stay young.

    Stay curious, My Friend! emoticon

I loved your blog, and the picture of your grandkids, Leslie!
You made me smile after a long tiresome work day : ))
It is amazing how very small kids are so genuinely new, and still they are complete personalities.

Oh, Leslie, I have to agree!! My grandkids are such a delight to watch and talk to! The older ones are always excited to give me bits of info that they've learned from their curiosity and it's such a delight to watch the babies as they become more aware and start exploring!! Although they are exhausting, they do keep me curious and excited about all the little (and big) things in life!!
