The other day, Dear Abby published the phone number for the Do Not Call Registry published by the GSA Federal Citizen Information Center. It is a toll-free number. It is 888-382-1222. She said that even if you have signed up with this registry before, you need to do it again every now and then to keep it current. So if you are receiving a lot of unsolicited calls from telemarketers, you might want to add your number to this list. However, if you enjoy talking to computers and harassing those guys that want to help you with your "Windows" computer. (I like to see how long I can keep them on the line before they hang up on me - LOL!!!!) Then don't bother calling this number. Harassing telemarketers can be a great form of entertainment!!!!! I myself have considered getting rid of my landline just so these guys will leave me alone. But I think I'll try the registry first.

I don't get these calls. I don't know why not. We got political calls and for some really weird reason the kidney foundation collecting clothes and stuff. They do a LOT of collecting. We never have stuff, but they always call. Late in the evening too!

The registry is unlikely to get rid of all the nuisance calls, but it should help. Good luck!

I've used the registry, and along with my answering machine/celllphone screening, I'm pretty much golden (about 99% of the time) - there's s current issue with some educational program marketeers (thank you, job search sites, for such unconscionable partnering!), but I'm getting better at weeding them out - and I just discovered that I can reject numbers received on my cellphone and place them on a "reject list" - will see how well that works!

Now I just need a system for folks I KNOW that I don't want to contact ...........oh, well.......

My landline is on an answering machine. Telemarketers don't talk to the machine, so I wait for it to run before I answer the phone. Works for me. emoticon
