An Update!

Saturday, May 09, 2015

Hi everyone! It's been a month since I last told you about my health status. I've been back to the surgeons and the cardiologist, and they are both pleased with my progress so far. I still can not drive, and I still have to ride in the back seat of the car when I am in a car. That's because IF I were to be sitting in the front seat (passengers side), and the car were to be involved in an accident, if the airbag went off, it could potentially reopen my surgical site. Don't want THAT to happen!!

I've been trying to walk a little bit more every day, as well as keeping busy in other ways. I've made major improvements to my collection of buttons. For me to be able to use them, they have to be sorted into creative categories. I have the time to do that now! I'm sleeping a little better at night now (yay!), and generally sleeping for 7-8 hours a night, which is good. I've started trying to sleep on my side, and I can do that for 1-2 hours at a time until I need to go back onto my back. The scar itself is looking good. My cardiologist said to put a little bit of Vitamin E on it, and I've been doing that. I still have some swelling around my feet, but nowhere as bad as it once was. I've noticed on the days that I walk a bit more, I have less swelling. I try to keep my feet elevated as much as possible when I'm sitting.

I want to express my sincere thanks for all of the wonderful get well wishes that you all have sent to me. Your outreach and support have meant a lot to me. Thank you so very, very much!! You guys are the best!!

very happy to see this post. looks like you are on an upward trajectory--which is exactly where you want to be. people often don't understand how long recovery takes--its not just the insult to the body from the surgery, but anesthesia can have lingering effects that last for quite awhile too. using this down time to work on your buttons and things is a wonderful idea--you are accomplishing something, doing something you love, and healing all at the same time. great way to multitask! keep up the good work--each day will bring you more strength and more ability to enjoy your life with greater health. way to GO!

Karen--I am so happy to hear that things are moving along. I remember having to put special socks on my Dad when he had his surgery. Walking is the best.

What do you do with the buttons? My Mom use to have a big container of buttons. She was a sewer and made all our clothes. She even made my wedding gown and bride maids gowns. She use to make clothes for my son too. She doesn't sew so much now. She still quilts and crochets.

So glad you are on the mend! Good to see you back again!

You collect buttons? I guess it involves crafting? Funny, my brother's family teases me about buttons. My mother once told my sister-in-law proudly that I was such a good child as a toddler; she'd give me a box of buttons and I'd play with them for an hour. My sister-in-law was a teacher, now retired. This story came up years later, after my mother's passing, and when my nieces and nephews were grown, and they found it funny. "What exactly was wrong with you?" my nephew asked, laughing. And my sis-in-law said, "What was wrong with your mother? Didn't she think maybe you might swallow one?"

Everyone laughed, and for Christmas I got a framed patchwork embroidery (with buttons) reading " Button, button, who's got the button?" I keep it on my cubicle wall at work.

    Good news indeed!

Catching up on spark is a slow process. Being away for half of April I completely missed your health scare and surgery. I'm so glad everything turned out OK.

Now, what about this button collection? What do you do with them?

I'm asking because I must have 1000 buttons in 2 tin containers. My grandmother and my parents saved buttons from old clothes. For some of the fancier ones I can even remember the outfits they came from

Some people have valuable family antiques. My memories are more of the sentimental variety.
