I appreciate the comments on my blog and the good wishes for success. It's so cumbersome typing with one finger so I skipped a lot of info and background. I do know that 800 calories is far today low. I had lost nothing in 5 months on 1200 calories after my exercise was so limited and tried 800 to jump start my body to lose something. I did lose that little bit but my body again went into starvation mode and I knew I could not continue long term to lose the 100 lbs needed to get surgery. I do chair exercises but even those are limited. The doctor said the pedaling with my feet is damaging to my knees so could not do that. Using the arm bike is out due to my left shoulder. Beth had to cut back on arm exercise too and just had shoulder surgery. I rely on my walker to get me to the bathroom and bedroom and cannot have shoulder surgery until I can walk without a walker. So hip surgery has to be first. I have had physical therapy to help me add more exercise, but that's still very, very limited. That's why I am trying the ketogenic diet. It's not about counting calories, but I'm generally having 1600-1900 calories a day. What it focuses on is getting adequate protein, high fats and super low carbs. I recommend you check it out online before you judge this diet. It is healthy and my doctor is monitoring my progress and lab work just in case. The keto diet is used to treat Type 2 diabetes with great success. I am not diabetic but it is also excellent for burning stored body fat. I need to do something to lose the weight so I can hav surgery, and I need it to take less than 3-4 years.

    We are fighing some of the same battles. High weight with added mobility issues present a unique problem when trying to lose. And Age adds yet another layer.

    Thanks, Donna. As I said, my doctor is monitoring me through lab work and face to face appointments. I would not start any new diet or exercise routine without consulting my doctor, especially given my current limitations. There's no way I need to start anything that would possibly cause me more problems.

    Ketosis is caused by fat burning, but it does need to be monitored medically.
