Happy Cinco de Mayo!

So I was determined to get back, REALLY BACK, to the gym this week. Not just walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes or the bike for 20 minutes. Serious getting back with getting ready to start lifting again. I love lifting. I don't know why. As the guys I used to work with said, "She's basically a dude anyways." They have some points there. But I knew I had to ease back in. No craziness of lifting where I was in January.

So after I took the dog on a mile walk I grabbed a towel and my bathing suit and went off to the gym. I decided pool noodles were a good start for me. At the gym they have noodles that have been cut down to "weight" size. I spent a half hour just exploring different movements and motions under the water with both arms. I found where I needed work and what felt ok already. I did attempt to swim a little. Slowly, like when you teach a kid. I would swim half the length of the pool. My shoulder wasn't too happy with that, neither was my arm on the down stroke. I think I stopped just at the right time where I felt it, but I was not sore today.

I have to figure out how to fit some in tonight. I need to do dishes, I agreed to go out for dinner, the dog always wants a long walk in the nice weather... oh life. I wish the pool didn't have such short hours since the gym is 24 hours. But, I get that they don't want someone in there at 1am with nobody in the place.

    It's really tricky getting a shoulder to heal. I did tai chi when I hurt my shoulder. It was the only thing that I could do and eventually I was able to move my arm again. It still (after 6 years) not completely back to normal but I can raise my arm without excruciating pain.

    I love the idea of resistance workouts in a pool! That way, you can care for your injury but still get a great workout.

    I didn't think to look for a pool resistance training video. That actually is a little helpful. I have taken a lot of water aerobics classes, so I was just winging it. I wanted to really feel what each move felt like to my elbow. Pro-tip: never fracture your elbow! This is what I get for getting married. emoticon

    I have done a few pool workouts with those water resistance things. I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. But there are a few videos and workouts that you can do in the pool that count as resistance training. I bet that didn't help at all.... emoticon
