Surgery Recovery

Monday, May 04, 2015

Hi everyone! It has been so long - I miss you all! I did read through blogs, though I didn't comment on all of them. Seems like everyone must be pretty busy these days, the blogs were pretty quiet!

Well I had surgery 2 weeks ago today and everything went well. I am still recovering, but doing well. I am going to keep this short as my arm gets sore from typing. In this procedure I had done, I had my last remaining parathyroid (has nothing to do with the thyroid other than location) removed from my neck and some of the tissue relocated into my left forearm. I had a tumor on my parathyroid and it is likely I will have more so if it is in my forearm, it is easier to access in the future. Unfortunately it is in the muscle of my arm, so the recovery is longer than my first surgery 5 years ago when they only went into my neck. I have my post-op tomorrow, so I should know more about when I can get back into working out.

I'm using this time to do short walks and get back into time on my bike. I haven't ridden a bicycle in YEARS... like 10+ years. I've got the mountain bike that I had as a young adult. I'm going to just make due with that for as long as I can since bikes are not cheap! We've got a 5k scheduled for the end of the month, and that is going to kick off my 1/2 marathon training. There is a very local very small 1/2 marathon in July that we want to do. It is limited to 250 participants so I'm sure I'll be the last one to cross the finish line, but I'm excited to do it. The race finishes about 2 miles from our house.

That is about all I can type right now, but I wanted to check in and get my plan in writing! I hope everyone has a great week!

Thanks for the update. Hope everything goes good today on your post op appointment. I've debated doing a 1/2 marathon this year... I don't know, it just seems so daunting.
