VHS Tapes..... Really!!!

Saturday, May 02, 2015

Sometimes I am amazed at the projects in my house the seem to find me. When those projects find me, I know there is a divine reason for this. All things in God's time.

I have a new recliner that I had not sat in..... on Thursday, I decided to nap in my new recliner. I tried to nap, but my two cats would not let me. They kept jumping on me in my new chair, so I gave up the idea of napping.

I don't have a working T.V. in that room, so I opened the armoire to see if I had kept the old T.V.
I had, along with a bunch of other "Stuff." Among the "Stuff," was quite a number of old VHS video movies that I had recorded off of my T.V. to keep and watch later.

I have watched a lot of these, over and over. That is, when I had a working VCR.

All of a sudden I realized that this was my project for the day. I did not realize what I had gotten myself into. I pulled up two large garbage pails and loaded them up with 30 gallon lawn/leaf bags to throw away those old tapes. {Most from the 80's and with commercials}. I then realized that I had a lot more tapes on a rack behind a door. Eight, yes 8 trash bags later, I am exhausted from getting up and down, looking at the labels, pitching them in the trash and then taking them to the city trash container.

For sentimental reasons, I kept a few tapes.

I found some Christmas cartoon tapes. I called our school system here and was in hopes they could use them. Unfortunately, they don't use VHS tapes anymore. O.K., I am trying to get back to the current century. emoticon emoticon

I have some movies that have the original jacket cover on them. I called the 'Habitat Re-Store'
and they will take those. The rest of my stash are eagerly awaiting Monday trash pickup day.

As I started typing this blog I remembered something. Not something I wanted to remember, but something I needed to remember. When I turned around from my computer, I realized my remembering was true....... darn.

Behind me right now, are three, yes 3 more boxes full of VHS tapes.......... O.K., this is wrong on so many levels......... emoticon

I recorded things on my Mom's T.V back then, or at a friend's, because I had only basic cable. It was great back then. But those are days are gone.

I don't think my city trash container will hold any more tapes, I will probably have to wait until after the trash truck comes by to start again.

VHS tapes....... Really.

emoticon Brenda, you just opened my mind. I must have a hundred VHS tapes too. I would love to find someone who would love to have them. I know there must be someone out there that collects them. Any more ideas as to where to look?
Thanks for the reminder. Have a Blessed Sunday! Irene

OMG my daughter and I have been going thru our old VHS tapes lately too! I still have a working VHS player. Found it at an auction last summer - still sealed in the box too. Brand new "old" technology. My sister got such a hoot out of it when I won it for a couple dollars. But it has been fun watching old stuff - my oldest DD ballet recitals from when she was tiny.

To sort, toss, and re-organize is the project planned for summer break. It's amazing how much "stuff" accumulates! emoticon

You are not alone! Last year we moved from Colorado to Oregon to downsize and in the process I found tons of old VHS tapes. Most of them, the ones I recorded off the TV, went into the trash, including the entire series of Northern Exposure that I thought would be a wonderful gift for a retirement center. That was before I realized how long the series would go and before the stores started carrying the old programs on discs with higher quality and no commercials! They all went into the trash: not quit so many as yours but darned near. I kept some the classics such as Some Like It Hot and Operation Petticoat, along with several Christmas programs and all my Richard Simmons workout tapes.

After we got moved I set up my television system and thought I pulled out my VHS player - I thought! My dear ex-brother-in-law had given me a DVD player and my son had given me 2 more. Found those. But now I can't find my VHS player! We are still going through boxes and hopefully I will find it soon. If not I will have to start scouring thrift stores for one; those wonderful tapes are useless without the player!

Enjoy those oldies but goodies along with the new recliner!
