My journey to health with the 21 Day Fix

I'm on day 13 of my first experience with the 21 Day Fix. I find that I'm doing fine with food choices. It's not all that different from the kind of eating I was striving to do anyway. I still log my food everyday with my Spark People tracker because that's a habit I want to keep.

There are many days that I struggle to eat as many calories as the food plan says that I should. The 21 Day Fix containers hold more than they look like when I first saw them! By following the 21DF food plan & utilizing the SP food tracker I've learned that I have not been eating nearly enough protein and I've been eating too much fat. Almost all of my fats are healthy fats but I was eating too much of it. The 21DF containers are helping me make those adjustments in my diet that I had struggled to figure out.

I find that I start the week with a lot of energy and that my energy for food prep & exercise wanes BIG TIME on Wed. So this week I intend to do a little more prep earlier in the week so that I don't have much to do on Wed. I also will get to bed earlier on Tue night and see if that helps my Wed slump.

The exercise videos are really hard for me. My fitness is poor and I'm carrying a lot of extra weight. Add to that that I have a hip bone deformity that keeps me from being able to rotate my hip beyond a certain point. For example, I have never been able & will never be able, to sit Indian style. My left hip simply doesn't rotate that far. I've had 2 hip replacements but the bone deformity is another thing. Anyway, I don't say that as an excuse. Less weight and better fitness would help me a lot to compensate for the hip issue that can't be changed. I just say that because it's part of what I deal with in completing the exercise routines and getting up and down from the floor a lot. I have to pause the videos to get up & down from the floor. Autumn is always well into the next exercise while I'm still getting up or down :-). That said...I've been amazed at how much I CAN do. Some of the exercises are getting easier. Today I made it through the warm up with out getting out of breathe!! YAH!!

So I think it's all going about as I expected. I didn't expect quick miracles. It took a while for my body to get in this condition and it's going to take more than 21 days to fix it. That's really the only thing I really don't like about this program. I don't like that Autumn keeps saying in the videos, "Give me 21 days and I'll give you the body you want!" Well honey, I'm working hard but it's not going to happen in 21 days!

    There is a video on youtube that shows even better modifications for the really challenging exercises. Its perfect fir thise who have hip, knee or thigh issues. This is a trainer showing you how you can still burn the same calories without getting up and down if thats too difficult for you to do.

    Yes, I like Autumn too! After 3 wks of daily workouts with her, I hear her in my head all the time telling me to engage my abs when I stand up from my chair....ha,ha! emoticon
