Diva Run & Goal Met!

Monday, April 20, 2015

This last weekend I went to Galveston for the Diva run with a few girlfriends. We had SO much fun, it was nice to get away and enjoy some girl time with lots of silliness and giggling. We were worried about the weather, but it wasn't too bad, just a few sprinkles and on race day it was lovely! My friends were doing the half, but I stuck with the 5K. I have had two major running goals since the begining of the year. 1. Run a 5K in less than 40 min. 2. Run a consisent 12 min mile (which would put me at about a 36-37 min 5K. The 5K course for the Diva was nice and flat. No strong winds that morning so it was a great race for a PR. I wasn't sure I would be able to do it sub 40, but I thought I'd probably be pretty close... maybe even heartbreakingly close... like 40:04. haha My calves were pretty tight during the run and there were a few times that I wanted to walk, but I kept telling myself "Sarah, you will NOT walk, you are going to finish this!" I kept a pretty good pace for most of the run, somewhere between 13:45 and 13:15, the last stretch I planned on speeding it up a little more and just before I did, I looked down at my garmin and realized I had already sped up! I sprinted towards the finish line and looked down at my time. I DID IT! My offical time was 39:35! emoticon

I'm so excited and now I'm even more determined to keep up with my speed work and keep progressing! I'm coming for you 12 min mile! Watch out!

Below is a picture of most the DIVA loot I got. Before the race we got our tutu's, and then right before the finish we got our feather boa and crown. At the finish we got our medal from a shirt-less fireman (wow! haha)and a glass of champagne.

emoticon So cute.. That's awesome. I've never liked running. I was on the track team in high school, back when I weighed in the 90's... but I even hated it then. I'll walk fast, but not run. But I sure admire people that can run. It astounds me. Good job!
