MEMORY FLASH

Wednesday, April 08, 2015

Not long ago on TV’s “ CHOPPED” one item in the basket for the competing chefs to cook was a cow’s tongue. Not very appetizing-looking but no one was groaning. Except the host who commented that he didn’t like “the bumps”.

Memory exploded and I was about 12, sitting with my family at the dinner table. We were in the Miami kitchen with a corner bench and table that was one of my favorite places in our new home. Mom had served all except her “surprise” – it was tongue – cow’s tongue and she hadn’t skinned the bumpy skin off. I was not complimentary or appreciative for that meal. I had forgotten the whole incident and my absolute revulsion – but, know what? at this advanced stage of my life the memory makes me shudder and I still wouldn’t eat it!

    Hey there friend;

    Thanks for sharing that memory with us. I have seen tongue before in the store but never on a plate anywhere let alone mine !!! I would like to thing I would try anything at least once to even know if I like it but I have to at least like the looks of it and the smell enough to give it a try. I have to say that tongue is not one that would entice me !!!

    I always enjoy reading your blogs. emoticon emoticon

    I had one time. It was not at home, but rather at work. I was 17m going to college and working at a small nursing home. We only had about 15 patients. All the staff including administrator sat down with residents and ate together. The cook was wonderful. She made the best egg custard and bread pudding, Oh, and the tongue was great just like brisket but not stingy. Always glad to see your blogs I had missed the last 2-3. So glad to see you are doing Ok. Hugs Pat.
