Three Great-Grandmothers at Christmas...

Monday, April 06, 2015

I have two granddaughters who are very special to me. Now nine and eleven years old, they bring joy into my life in immeasurable ways. They live about an hour away in the Atlanta area, and I feel very blessed to have them as a special part of my life.

At Christmas, the girls made homemade gifts for all three of their great-grandmothers. They shared their love with my mother, my mother-in-law and their father's grandmother. Hugs and kisses from these girls brightened the lives of these dear ladies. One by one the girls are losing those special bonds in quick succession.

My dear mother-in-law passed away in January. My precious mother just passed away in March. Now today they are calling the family in from across the country as their third and final great-grandmother is dying in the hospital. Three great-grandmothers in just three months. Sigh. The sorrow is great today throughout the family.

Evelyn, I am so sorry for yet another loss. It is a huge hole in my heart with my mom's death. My deepest sympathy to you and your granddaughters and father-in-law, and your father as well. What a season of loss.

Those girls were so lucky to have met their adorable great-grandmothers. Those are memories they will never forget. I only had my mom's side grandparents for a while. Now, it's time to transfer all that love to the grandmas and grandpas and continue enjoying them while we last! emoticon

While it is very sad and I am very sorry to hear of your loss, I can say that as a kid who was lucky enough to know my three of my great grandparents, it is a great blessing and not many people can even say that they knew their great grandparents. Cherish the memories you built over the time you were lucky enough to have them.

Thank you, dear friends.. Losing my mother feels like the biggest loss a girl could ever have. I do miss her terribly and always will. And yes, my father grieves for her after a strong marriage that has lasted 67 years. I don't exaggerate when i say that they loved each other dearly. The smiles they shared daily when they exchanged glances were genuine. They danced and sang with each other up until the day following her massive stroke. It was so sweet to witness such a bond!

Sending you a special hug. You talked about the young girls losing their great grandmothers and made little of your own grief at losing your mother. Here's hoping your father isn't grieving too badly.

I've been thinking of you a lot, Evelyn, and am so sorry that your granddaughters are losing yet another family member. I'm glad that they live close enough that you can be a strong, loving part of their lives. Spend as much time as you are able with them to build strong bonds and memories for them to cherish.
    Hugs and prayers,

At least I am glad your granddaughters will be able to remember their great grandmothers, and I am glad they have you as a grandmother who cherishes them!
