Photos from Our Vacation - Drought Related

Saturday, April 04, 2015

I'm sure many of you have heard about the drought we are having here on the West Coast, but unless you live here, it might be hard to visualize. Hubby and I went to South Lake Tahoe this last week for vacation. We took some pictures to show how bad the drought is:

The left picture is the lake last May. The right picture is a few days ago.

This is the really depressing photo. No snow on the mountains and a receding lake.
We have been told if we don't get a ridiculous amount of rain this year we, as a state, will run out of water in less than a year. I can't tell you how scary that is. We are all rationing water (drained the hot tub last year, no lawn watering, shorter showers, etc.) but if we don't get some serious rain, none of that will matter.
Please pray for our state.

So, after that depressing note -
It was a very relaxing vacation. Hubby and I had time to talk about things that had gotten between us and just enjoy each other's company. The altitude was hard on me, but I did manage to get in 10,000 steps one day, which is awesome for me.
Other good news - my son has been working for 3 weeks for the California Conservation Corps and absolutely loves it! I am full time at my job now and hubby has a second interview for a sales job that he really wants. Things are looking up for our family!!

My husband and I are moving back to Northern California in June when he retires. We're both natives and our families still live there. We've been paying very close attention to the drought and admit it's pretty nerve wracking. So sad to see our beautiful state just dry up like this. Praying daily for rain and our favorite saying is now "April showers bring May flowers."

My summers were at Tahoe. I remember the lake being so full. These pictures are living proof that we desperately need rain. They say it is suppose to drizzle tomorrow here (San Francisco,) but I doubt it. It never does anymore. I do hope you enjoyed your trip up at Tahoe. It is a special place in my heart!!!!
