Today is 7 weeks post-op from my knee replacement.
I had PT at the hospital. They rolled me there in a lounge chair and rolled me back most days. I walked to part way to PT and back a couple of days. One day I walked all the way back to my room from the PT gym.
After 4 days in the hospital, I was discharged to a rehab hospital/nursing home for 2 weeks. It was more of a nursing home than rehab center, but I worked hard. I wanted out of there! I had PT once a day and OT once a day. They did not even plan to have a discharge planning meeting until I had been there 2 weeks! I was discharged from there after 2 weeks (as my doctor had ordered and I had planned).
Then I had 2 weeks of home PT. I liked this therapist. He was good, he challenged me, and he made me work hard. I hope to get him when I have the other knee replaced. He took me outside to walk and set up a walking plan for me.
I've started outpatient rehab and I can DRIVE! I don't have to depend on any one else to take me places. I like this therapist, too. She challenges me and makes me work. I see her 3 times a week and do PT exercises at least once a day the other 4 days.
I have to work hard because I hope to go back to work half days in 3 weeks. In that time I have to build up my strength, endurance, and stamina so I can walk 0.3 mile from where I park my car to the lab (and back), and do the walking that I used to do on a daily basis. This past week I walked over 1000 steps 5 out of 7 days. My plan and goal is to walk at least 1500 steps a day this week. So far today: 1639. And it's still early.
