Excuses, excuses...

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

I, um, "ride" my stationary bike while I watch TV (what DOES one do on a stationary bike?). I "ride" it while I watch The People's Court. I "ride" it while I watch Judge Judy, Roseanne and Suze. I "ride" it while I watch Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia. I "ride" it while I watch The Middle, which I am moderately obsessed with (that's an oxymoron, no? Moderately obsessed?).

I could go on, but I won't. You get the picture. I watch too much TV, but I "ride" my bike while doing so.

It's a habit, and it's a darn good one...

Until, of course, ABC Family has a marathon of "Pretty Little Liars," which sounds creepy, and doesn't have The Middle on from 1pm-3pm. I'm saying that like it's a common occurrence but no, it's just today.

This means, OF COURSE, that I can't "ride" my bike.

Also, I woke up this morning aching something AWFUL. My bike doesn't do this to me, but my back and thighs are killing me. How did this happen? Oh, yardwork yesterday...

This means, OF COURSE, that I can't "ride" my bike.

OF COURSE, I can "ride" my bike. I have magazines (I actually would only read the magazines at the gym, and I have no gym right now, so reading magazines on the bike would be great!). I have music. I have lower resistance, especially since these sore muscles were not from the bike. These are simply excuses.

Habits are GREAT when they're good, but I guess sometimes, they give you a certain tunnel vision.

I'm going to "ride" my bike, but after I finish the dishes (don't even get me started on my excuses today for why that hasn't happened yet). Thankfully, Judy comes on soon...

I think it's great that you exercise with the TV! It's a great thing to do while you're checking in with your shows.

I love to walk in place while I watch things on Netflix. Right now, I am going through episodes of 4400. It's silly, it's about these people who were abducted at different times by people from the future, given extraordinary powers, and brought back to Earth all at the same time. Some of the people lost their whole families, because they were gone so long. Supposedly, the people of the future needed these people to avert some disaster that was going to occur. Except something has gone wrong, which seems strange, because why would they let that happen?

Sorry your TV schedule is off, but you are really showing flexibility by reading with magazines. My exercise bike is out on the porch, and I like to read while I ride that. I haven't in a while, though. It needs a good washing, since we got a new roof to our house. They removed all of our old shingles and the first roof, and there was all this dust that settled everywhere.

Have fun with Judge Judy! and the magazines!

emoticon excuses sure are easy to come up with-always something else we need to get done or why we can't do this or that today. I like exercising while watching TV. I put on a netflix documentary & walk or do stepping or workout on the ball or lift some arm weights etc... while I watch. I seem to get more exercise in that way & some learning while I do it as well :) So I think it's a great habit even if watching too much TV isn't such a great habit by itself. emoticon

    Judge Judy rocks!

My exercise habit is getting it down first thing in the morning. If I don't for some reason, then it usually doesn't get accomplished because working out at any other time "feels" weird to me. Those habits ate definitely a double-edged sword.

I've read of so many SparkPeople who ride their stationary bikes or walk on their treadmills while watching TV shows or movies. That sounds like a great way to make exercise less dread-ful. And I know what you mean about habits starting to cause tunnel vision. I used to be so neurotic that whenever I went for a walk, it had to be the exact same route in the same direction each day, and I had to walk at the same speed and I couldn't stand it if I met someone I knew who tried to stop me and talk. That would tick me off--crazy to remember that. So I don't think "moderately obsessed" is an oxymoron, because there are really degrees of obsession, and you sound quite healthy compared to the way I used to be! (If that's any consolation--ha ha.)

I just admire you for exercising as much as you are!

At least you are riding through your shows and not just sitting there, good for you!
We are inheriting a gently used exercise bike - I hope I can 'ride' it as often as you do, my biking journey will take me through "Real Housewives of (pick a location)" and "Snapped" marathons! Hoping it will work more than just my legs though...

I think it is great that you ride your bike so much! Better than not riding it!
What about little bursts of 'sprint' work during commercials?
I WISH I had a set up like that..I'm working on getting my treadmill moved so I can set up a tablet and 'watch' my show while working out! I used to watch the Biggest Loser while running intervals on the treadmill. I used to like The Middle, but haven't watched it in a long time.. maybe pick it up on Netflix again.

LOL i kinda love that you love "The Middle." I find that one of the hardest ones to watch at work. Which is crazy, I know. BTW, I heard that the oldest son in that show, Charlie McDermott, just signed on for a pilot called "Super Clyde," which they are re-shooting after it was "dead" a couple seasons back. They originally filmed it with Rupert Grint from Harry Potter, who I am more partial to, but I guess it didn't work out. Anyway, that might mean bad news for the future of "The MIddle" considering his contract must be up to have taken on this pilot. Anyway that's your Hollywood 411 from me today, emoticon
