Another close friend, Fred, is also a Race Director legend in the Tampa Bay area. I support local races big time! Of course, in our area, most of our races are just as much fun and better than the $$$ big time corp cookie cutter races!
In any case, this was a first time for me as I heard about the after party being awesome. A bunch of my OMT teammates were doing it so (after being coerced by ALL my team) I decided to join the party! (at the risk of perpetual harassment)
One of my teammates, a fast runner, offered to pace a guy who requested it. Obviously to us, he had been in training and wanted to be pushed to a good posting. I decided to follow them at her pace. ( I was also timing her pace)
She started off faster than the pace time. I could understand what she was doing with her approach.
Within the first half mile, she started to hit the number on point. I knew this woman well but had never run with her so I wanted to feel her style.
She kept his mind off the running with encouragement and talking to other runners and a lot of the spectators who we both knew. I was enjoying this and started in while following them. She is a great pacer as I learned.
When we got to the last 2/10ths of a mile, she said they had to pick it up and finish strong! They did and I followed them across the finish line. I talked him up and told him how strong he was keeping up with Sally. Later, as we were "recarbing,"I told her how well she had done with him.
Our team is definitely being noticed at races now! Whether on the podium or at the post-race party, we have fun and noticeably celebrate more than most. Have I mentioned our member numbers are soaring every day?
My Sponsor, Mentor, & Close Friend, Val! Figures she owns Outspokin Bicycles, she was a gear runner decades ago before Triathlons were cool!
Me, Val, Jim, (Huge Race Sponsor), and Sally (Badazz Super Hero & Race Pacer!) I love these dear friends!
More teammates and friends!
Our Finish Line was in the middle of Westchase Town Center. The cafes and bars come out and support big time!
This row of sponsors included Blue Moon (sampling a Spring Peach Ale all were raving about), World of Beers, our Prime Host & Sponsor (providing a delicious limited release Blue Moon), and The Grind (providing a Tito Vodka Bloody Mary to die for!)
Malarkey's Irish Pub provided an off the hook Shepherd's Pie to all!
Tijuana Flats was pushing out healthy soft tacos for recovery food! Yummo!
My Swim Coach, Leo, always watches what I eat. He took my Smartphone and...
