Just A Ride...
Friday, March 13, 2015
Okay, so this all begins yesterday with the LONGEST most tedious day, beginning at 5 a.m. and not wrapping up till after 6 p.m. involving my going with a client out of town (Syracuse) for some important medical tests and evaluations. The medical center did a poor job of corralling the requisite stuff that needed to be done. It was supposed to be over by lunchtime. Good thing I brought my bag of veggies and part-skim mozzarella sticks!
So late in evening a fellow bike club member posted a ride for Friday afternoon as we were taking a run up to 50 degrees with loads of sunshine and the weekend looked like it was going to be a soggy, sloppy mess. I'm like: "I know precisely how I'm going to use my comp time from Thursday!"
Today was my first ride of the year. No big deal ride, not even 20 miles (18+).
BUT: Oh! MY! What a realignment of my universe! How I forget, I do not know, but it all came rushing back to me in my little ride up through Binghamton out to the River Road loop in Chenango Bridge.
This is what I was born to do! I reclaimed one of the most fundamental axis of my world! My heart just swelled with the "rightness" of it all.
I can't explain it. I don't understand it, how something so simple as sitting on two wheels pedaling along through the outdoors can have such a transformative effect on me. All I can do is savor and smile.
It's like a positive Groundhog's Day, where I re-discover what makes my world "right," all over again, every spring!
I met up with 3 other bike club members. We looked pretty cool, considering there must have been some ESP going down: every one of us wore black pants and red tops! We actually LOOKED like a club instead of a menagerie of colors...lol.
And as usual, after pedaling a bit with them initially, ZOOM! Off I took! Waiting up at a few spots along the way. One might ask why I bother riding with others if I'm not riding "with" them...but I really DO feel connected with them, even though I may be up the road some. There is a definite value added to the experience for me. Hopefully for them as well.
After the ride, an added luxury: TIME! I had some time before seeing a private client later in the evening. I really am overdue for my upper body strength training, but I felt a need to kick back a bit and chose to swim laps for a half hour and actually indulged in the hot tub for 10-15 mins...a very rare occurrence!
Such a terrific day of recharging and relaxing. Now I'm ready for a sloppy weekend and taking my workouts back indoors. Spring is definitely here and more rides are just around the corner!
Have a super weekend everyone, fill your sails and GO!
