Just cause I like to save these---- I need a new header!
sailing to a more flexible/lighter future

Revision/edited again- 2/4/10
Sparkified since 5/07. Down over 75 pounds on Spark, over 140 from my high weight. I'm finally willing to put up my 'real' old weight. Funny- I have all these buds that are now just marking the last part to go, and here I go, adding a ton on the top. Ain't that a hoot! It's been years since I was that fat- I've been working at being gentle and loving myself and easing off the weight for so long, and I want the visible celebration. At 55 years old, I am way happy with my lifes direction. I've had no money for trainers, or fancy gyms, or special foods... and it makes this journey my own... my responsibility, my joy.
History. Mostly just a 'tad' overweight, my first big cycle up occured at age 28, when I was on pain meds & in bed. My response was the 'speedy fast will power' diet trip- I lost it all, and 1 1/2 years later gained back & more. Enter the classic yo you cycle crap. I finally started getting wise, and being more gentle, and easing my way down- until my hip went bad in 05. I found it harder and harder to walk, or move, or do anything. As a continuation of my yo-yo diet life cycle, I gained weight. In November 06, I finally went to a Dr. with my hip pain- we scheduled a new titanuim hip & I got that done in January 07. At that point, due to the pain previous to the surgery, I could barely move. My first long walk after surgery, a mile took me over 30 minutes- and took me 4 days to recover from. When the therapist asked me what I wanted to get from having hip surgery- I told her I wanted my life back.
I still have joint pain- everywhere, including arthritis in my ears. But I decided that I can be fat, awkward & in pain, or thin, fit & in pain, & I am so doing this.
I am doing this SLOWLY. But with great endurance and joy. I hike hills, kayak, bike for 20 mile trips, and go, go, go. I love to dance- Ecstatic Dance is so energizing.
Technically- I am still obese. But I would love to have a BMI test, cause I bet I have a ton of muscle these days.
I'm on half the high blood pressure meds that I used to be on... and I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn't appear to be a train--- but I'll keep on checking.
I eat lots of fruit, vegies, flax seed, I am not always 'perfect' in my tracking, cause I get some great homemade food made by friends, and I sometimes eat at small little restaurants. Plus- for the most part, I use the tracker to make sure I'm getting the essentials in balance. I eat fast food about 4 times a year now- and so, with 'one time' foods, I find that I am guessing- but I watch my portions, and track what I eat at home.
All that working out- but I am no speed demon. My joints get outraged if I go too hard, so I am gentle, gentle, and have a great time.
I love Spark, and thank all the people who cheer me on and say hey. The tracking, accountability and community are what make this site so wonderful.
My community in the Bay is huge now... I find that I am on here much less, but still check in to say hey.
Time to loss the last of it. Peace!
