Persistence, Dedication and Determination equals Progress

Okay, I can’t wait any longer to share my new accomplishment. Yes, this has to do with my goal to ride a century; 100 miles. Just to give a little back story, I started a 16 week training program in which I officially completed week 8 on Saturday, February 21, 2015. That is an accomplishment within itself; so I’m excited about that. I recall when I started the first week and the first ride was only 5 miles; it really kicked my butt; but I was focused to get through the first week; Dedication.

To recap again, I was supposed to ride 45 miles last week but I finished with a Metric Century; 62 miles; actually rode 67 miles; Persistence! You can read about that in my previous blog “Celebrating a Major Accomplishment.”

This past week the program called for a 50 mile endurance ride; the endurance ride is the 4th ride of the week. To make a long story short; I rode 50 miles but I figured if I rode 67 miles last week I should set another personal record and go for 70 miles. I know, I’m not following the program to the letter because I’m riding far more miles than required; but I just can’t seem to help myself. Isn’t it a great feeling to be a fanatic for fitness? I mean there’s nothing like the feeling you get when you accomplish a goal. Anyway, I rode 70 miles, but I just couldn’t stop there; no, I couldn’t stop I just had to go for the goal; yes the complete 100 miles(Century) and I did just that. 5hours 34minutes of moving time on a bicycle with 17 minutes of rest a total of 5hours 51mintues; Determination.

You see, just 8 to 9 weeks ago, I struggle to ride 5 miles on day one and now I have a 100 mile ride under my belt; that’s progress.

This is just another story of how Persistence, Dedication and Determination equals Progress. True I’m only half way through the scheduled program and I can only imagine with some tweaks and adjustments, I will become stronger, fitter, faster; just plain better. Since I struggle with nutrition, I must apply this same attitude (Persistence, Dedication and Determination) to see major results: weight loss! I can do this and you can do.

Thanks for reading.

Super congrats on a job incredibly well done. Just don't get too aggressive with the distances. Try to follow the program and listen to your body. God luck!!

What an awesome accomplishment and to think you are just at the halfway point of your training program. You are definitely inspiring to me as I too want to ride more long rides and some day a century. My high for a ride last year was 43 miles.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted!
