Marathon #8 done

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

I've started 11, completed 8 marathons (2 became HMs due to injury or sick on route, 1 DNF due to heat exhaustion), and completed well over 20 HMs.

This last marathon was as tough as I expected, with temps in the 50's and 92% humidity. Even the Elites were having a tough time (have you heard about the Elite African runner who literally crawled to the finish line?). It took just a bit longer than planned - I did take a short bio break, then helped keep some struggling runners and walkers going between miles 16-23.

Nonetheless, it's done, I have a huge heavy metal bling, and a nasty blister on my toe. But, it's done.

Next year is the 25th anniversary. I know I'll be there, just don't know for which distance, yet.

MALAMI518 - you should be well-prepared for your full marathon by October. Just stick to your training plan and remember to allow rest and recovery between long runs.

    You can do it!

Congratulations! I'm very impressed and also inspired. I ran my first half marathon last year 2 weeks before my 50th birthday and then my second on my 50th birthday. I'm signed up for a full in October, 2015, and I'm feeling nervous about the distance. I'm not sure if there will be another one. Eight is very impressive!

I didn't start this marathon thing until my 50's. So, if I can do it, you can, too. You might not want to, and that's okay.

The Half Marathon is by all means a challenging distance and finishing is an accomplishment to be very proud of and sets a terrific example of healthy living for your family and friends.

Congrats! I saw that video of the runner, and it looked rough. I am very much impressed by all of the marathon runners because the HMs kick my hind end enough - I can't imagine finishing 8 of them! emoticon
