Disappointment..But Life Goes On!!!

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

I have been so preoccupied with my different ailments that have seemed to shadow my life relentlessly. I have failed to notice the speed at which the calendar is speeding through the days.

Back in October I spoke with Lisa Maxbauer, a writer with First for Women magazine. She was interested in doing an article on weight loss. One that stressed the importance of vitamin D.
Which my Doctor absolutely says is very important in the obesity, weight loss program.
When a persons BMI is above 30, they can't absorb the amount of vitamin D that our bodies need.
When I started the weight loss program , I was put on 4000 iu a day of vitamin D. Which is more than double the usual daily amount.

I sent in my info and after a week, was asked for more info.
I was ready to tell her I was too occupied to continue when I got an e mail saying the article was a go.

I was contacted by Christie Geiger, photo editor. She set up the photo shoot. Filled me in on what to expect, etc,

Here's the call sheet,

I signed all right of photos over to magazine. The photographer, Ty Milford who was a fantastic man, said after publication he would send me the pictures.
I checked his resume, he has photographed some big business's .
He was so nice to work with.

Patty Harding was the stylist and make up artist. She worked wonders
with me. Absolutely took 10 years off me with just make up. Even had me in false eye lashes.
I still looked like me , just more polished. Not as soft and casual. Even with the younger look, not one I would want to try and maintain .

The shoot took place at my sister in laws. She was allowed to take some pictures of the preparations. Used my phone camera.

I had agreed to participate in this article to reach more women of a certain age group.
Since most weight loss stories are focused on a younger women, the senior age group is forgotten.

Well we still exist and many might want to adjust their weight and make changes, but need motivating and encouragement.
I thought since I didn't start my on my weight loss program till I was 68 and very obese, here's a picture at 335 lbs. Taken Dec. , 24, 2009.

Just before Christmas got an email from Christie, asking if I had another before photo. The one shown, I had sent in as my before picture and it was so degraded, would not copy in magazine.

One thing I was adamant about during my most obese years were NO photos.
The only known one of me was this one. If I had known it was being taken, I would have not permitted it.
Of course since then I have regretted not having some pictures. They are important for comparison.

The only other picture showing my obesity was taken after losing 100 lbs.

I told Christie this and sent it in. But they need an original copy of my before or one that showed my original weight at the beginning of journey.

The magazine was up against an deadline, not giving me time to try to get a better copy or locate another picture,
The article was postponed.
I didn't blog this, waiting to see if it was assigned another date.
Since this was an winter shoot, doubt if will be in any other publications.
Whether the story will every be published, I don't know

Am I disappointed?, Sure.
Am I devastated ? No.

Disappointed that my story won't reach more women.
Looks like I will have to find another way to tell senior women it's never too late to make lifestyle changes.

If you're happy with your life as it is, live it, enjoy.

But if you think some weight loss might enhance your happiness. If you feel you could do better in the exercise area, do something about it.

I embarked on my weight loss in order live. At 335 lbs I was dying. Too many ailments that were obesity related. Doctor gave me about two years.
All those ailments were eliminated with the weight loss.

I have no idea how many years I will live. but I've already passed the two years given me in Oct . 2009.
Looks like I'm winning,

Sorry if I have disappointed you, but things happen and life goes on.

It's all good.
One door closes another opens.

Peace and Love

I love your attitude. You are the opposite of disappointing, you are so inspiring to me and to so many others. You are such an interesting woman. I just love reading your blogs and hearing about your life. I would hope that magazine figures out a way to publish your story because it would be inspiring to many, but you are already inspiring many and you will continue to do so, with or without them.

Tisha, great blog. I thought something must have turned up as I could not find the magazine with your picture. Tisha, perhaps you don't realize how many Spark members you reach with your story. I know I have told my friends about you and if each Spark member talk to their friends, they are going to bring you up as a fantastic success story at this age. I hope they will consider publishing it at a later date!

It's a great story - and you've done a great job of controlling your weight. I peaked at 332, and it was pain in my right knee that got me started on the way back down. It's just too bad that I ruined my body during my working life, but I'm still going anyhow, just as you are.

WOO HOO you look great! I am sorry they didn't print the article because I DO look for more articles that feature women closer to my age. I think it is harder to lose weight when we are older, but definitely achievable!

I cannot believe they would scrap an important article and subject like this due to a fuzzy before picture. It proves that the media is more concerned with the WOW factor than in getting the information out.
With or without the article, you are a real winner! Thanks for sharing your story.

Sad you haven't more before photos! I think most of us suffer from not liking to be photographed when we are good looking and obese. emoticon

Amazing story. You are a success because you didn't let what happened close you down. You rose to the top like cream. I am so proud of you and I believe God has some amazing plans for you that will benefit so many older women who struggle with weight. He will open that door when the timing is right. Just keep doing what you are doing. You look amazing. I am a senior woman, 68, who lost 45 plus pounds in the last 5 years and kept it off. I still need to lose 15 more. I decided to become a Silver Sneaker instructor to help senior women. It has not been easy and many gyms want those 20 or 30 year old instructors. I teach 2 days a week at my church and have 8 senior ladies that are showing up every class (one is 96). This might not be a big success in the eyes of the world, but in God's eyes it is a home run. I am cheering you on for all your efforts and dedication. You go girlfriend. Be Blessed, Alice

No disappointment...I was just wondering if I should go out and buy the magazine.

Seems they should have explained all of this before they got you all excited.

    Their LOSS...pun intended! emoticon

Tisha, are there any magazines for older women? Used to be one that started with a M but cannot recall the name. I had no idea about the vitamin D. Wonder how many other things that are so important to our health. But of course our generation is invisible
You have been such an inspiration and we so love your blogs. So glad you lost the weight when you did, can you imagine the difficulties with the health problems if you had not lost that weight?.
Just maybe another publication will run your story.
