Turning 50 and the Buffet Trap

Monday, February 09, 2015

So been pretty busy on farm and not much time to get on line.Turned 50 on the first. So it's all down hill now.Easy coasting right. HUh no different then I felt when I was 49 LOL Just another day and another year.Since we started making small changes in eating I find my pallet changing too.Things I use to love, some sweets and fryed foods, just dont taste the same now as when I though I could not live without them and they were "to die for" foods. These are subtle changes that dont happen overnight. When I cut out soda including diet soda, I thought uggg what will I drink how will I get by.( I was drinking a 2 liter a day at one time) Now if we are out in town and decide to stop out for lunch or something And I decide to have a treat of soda. Its like geez this is SOOOOOOOOOOOO sweet I cant stand it. Even my favorite Rootbeer is loosing it's apeal. Now my friend makes rootbeer and ginger ale from scratch and I like to get some from her on ocasion as a treat and it's not so sweet more flavor less sugar. We cut out frying food at home several years ago when we started this journey. But we still like to go OUT to KFC for ocasional fried chicken fix.Like once a month. But lasy couple times we went it seamed SOOO greesy and not as pleasurable as been in past. This is a good thing as it shows us your taste can be changed.Buffets use to be our goto place to eat out.I go into it with though on yes endless salad bar lots of good thing there too.Oh you start out with the healthy salad but then there is all that not so healthy foods tempting you as you go by it to the salad bar.And will power? I dont have it.Thats why I got to 300 plus pounds.Even though I dont eat 5 plates of food as in past and after salad I try to hit the vegys first,I can't pass up the mash potatoes and gravy and meat loaf ,roAST BEEF,OHH HEY A TACO WOULD BE GOOD TOO,THEN OH i NEED HAVE THIS OR THAT AND THEN i HAVE EATEN 2 PLATES OF FOOD AND getting sick to stomach since I have worked on my portion sizes and "shrunk" stomach it dosnt take much to get that full over full feeling.but look at all that great (not) food I still havnt tried!WHY WHy WHy.Thanks to a buffet binge this weekend I'm back to 300.I know that is partly water retention since another thing buffets have is MSG high sodium in foods. And with diligence I know I can get it back down but In one day I ruined weeks of hard work.At this age it so hard to come off so easy to go on.Ok so best way is to just NOT put myself into the situation. So my goal big change for this year is no More buffets!

It seems when you say no more, of what ever it is, you tend to crave it. I still go to buffets but right now it's Kings Buffet and I have rice noodles, and then go for the chicken & vegetables or shrimp & vegetables. I make sure I get a taste of the stuff I love but just a taste.

Also Fran's has the best fried chicken, so you can eat there and it's not greasy but you get your fried chicken fix plus good vegetables.

I still drink soda sometimes. I am finding out that if I can get soda with just sugar as the sweetener instead of having added corn sryup it's not as bad.

I don't think you undid two weeks work. You need to allow yourself occasional "treats". I've been reading if you are good 80% of the time then you are succeeding.
