This might be a bit long so I apologize in advance.
I had wanted to do this Duathlon for 2 years now. I registered early. Then Team Hope for the Warriors (H4W) did an all hands call for a runner to relay with one of our hand crank bikers. I immediately said i would do it. I did the 5K before and after my teammate, Andy, would knock out 10 miles on his starship!
Warriors Roll Call in Transition Area
Andy & I got some alone time and we shared our stories like only we could. We became a team right there! We were "Team Warriors."
This was a celebration of friends, family, and life. I got my Outspokin Multisports Team to invite H4W to share the team tent site. We also had Tampa Tri Team (T3) & St Pete Running Company join us.
OMT Base Camp
Gianna spent the night before with us as Mommy went on a dinner cruise. G knew she would have to wake up at 4:45am and come to the Duathlon with us. She was up and, like Katy Perry, ready to roar. OMT Coach Leo was running around and took a candid photo of us!
I'm so proud of D as a member of Team Warriors Pit Crew! Gianna was a Rock Star and everyone loved her! I was so happy she was around so many positive people! My friends could also see how my girls changed my life!
It was time to race! and we gathered at the start! One of our Warriors would run with her service pup, Drake! He had a serious pace as I had run with them twice before!
Obviously, Drake was the center of attention!
Finally, we were off. It looks like H4W was represented well and ran in a semi-formation!
While I was on the first 5K, D was in Transition with Andy, getting his starship ready!
(Gianna was capturing these great photos!)
There's something about this shot that Gianna took that just grabbed me.
Minutes later, I came into Transition, passed the Baton (bib) to Andy...
...and he was off on his first Duathlon Relay!
After he left, I can't describe the feeling I had! I wanted to run after him! Instead, I cooled down with Gianna, and kept moving the entire time Andy was out on the bike!
She also showed off flexibility skills!
And she danced with another teammate at our tent site!
I went back to Transition, got position ready, and T2 was on! I had been talking to my OMT Teammate who was also doing the Relay when Andy came into Transition!
The changing of the Baton!
And I was off. If you can see it, both of us had smiles on our faces!
I was high on life and this second 5K was a breeze! No surprise as this was my first Relay event as well. All about Team! The one water stop on the run was our H4W volunteers. I was really happy to see them on this second 5K and properly toasted them!
Finally, I had started the home stretch run to the Finish Line.
Coming in I ran past my OMT team site with my teammates cheering. It was the best...
...until I saw this later! D took this shot of Gianna cheering me to the finish! I cry every time I see it!
Another Finish Line!
Team Warriors was recognized on the podium. I was already rewarded with the opportunity to celebrate life with a Brother-in-Arms.
Life just gets richer all the time!
The group shot; Outspokin Multisports Team, Team Hope for the Warriors Tampa, Tampa Tri Team (T3), and St Pete Running Company, capturing the essence of team!
Thanks for taking the time to read this special blog. Obviously, it was rewarding and very emotional for me! If anything, take the fact that we can achieve our goals if we give the effort to champion obstacles! Much Love...
